Headset and different set of ear buds won’t work with Xbox controller but work with my ps4.

Wow that is a unique problem. All I can say is that I'm using Windows 10, Wireless Adapter, XBO controller with 3.5mm jack and a pair of base Apple ear buds. With a paired and sync'd controller and the ear buds inserted into the 3.5mm port, Windows switches
from my TV audio to the head phones without any issue.

My only idea would be to try out your setup with a different headset. I get that it would be extremely weird if the xbox stereo headset wouldn't work with your setup, but I'm only suggesting this for trouble shooting purposes.

Keep in mind ot get my setup working I didn't have to do anything out of the ordinary to make it work. Windows detects my ear buds and switches the audio input to the controller. Once I unplug it, it goes back to Window 10/TV

Could it also possibly be which device you have set to default in your audio list?? Maybe mess around with that.

Thanks for the updates. Are the skull candy ear buds working? Also, have you tried the stereo headset adapter, and they work with that? Try these headsets in a phone or something to make sure they are working. If they are than it most likely the controllers.

Give the xbox a power cycle, check to see if the controller is up to date by plugging the controller tot he Xbox with a USB in Kinect & Accessories in Settings.

Some people are having issues with certain headset and ear buds right now as well.

The audio button does not show up for all headsets. Mainly the ones it will not show up for are third party headsets. For example, I have two different ear buds I use. One shows up with audio, the other does not and they both work in my controller. If you
are unable to hear any sound, go to the Xbox settings under display and sound select audio output headset audio set to stereo uncompressed, along with HDMI and Optical audio. Under Volume make sure the party chat is set to headset. Other than this there is
no other options except updating controller with headset plugged in. Here is guide for

I've tried both headsets, albeit they are the same brand. Also tried a pair of ear bud things with a mic, these also worked previously with the xbox controller but not anymore!

Peculiarly, nothing works at all, no sound from the headsets as well as mic not working.

Will try the chatpad. Gotta be better than the moaning from the youngsters....
