Headphones not working after battery change

Can anyone help? I recently changed the batteries in my son's controller and now there is no sound and people can't hear him through his mike. We have checked the headphones and they are working and there is sound from the Xbox to the monitor. I have tried
everything - unplugging and replugging headset, re-pairing the console and controller, rebooting the console, etc etc. Hours later and still no resolution with a very upset and frustrated child. Can anyone help?

Elite controller not charging.

To clarify, yes, after switching the battery back and forth, everything has been working normally. I have been waiting for the low battery icon to pop up again, before I tried anything. It just came up and I'm currently charging the Elite with the old cable.
It seems to be working fine. I will update with any changes.

Are you sble to check with a different comtroller?

Have you gone into settings, accessories and checked to see if there is a controller update available?

Also, what type of headset is it? Do any other controllers work with the headset? Are other people able to hear or is it a problem with both hearing and speaking using the headset?

Check that you have fresh batteries in the controller, as the controller turns off some features when the batteries get low to conserve battery power like rumble and headphone sound.

Also, can you go to the Settings under Display & Sound and check the settings there. If you have set the headset audio to "Dolby Atmos for Headphones", be aware that you need to have PURCHASED the Dolby Atmos for Headphones app.

If you simply downloaded the Dolby Atmos app for free, you only get a 14 day trial of Dolby Atmos for Headphones. After 14 days, Dolby Atmos for Headphones stops working.

You can switch to "Windows Sonic for Headphones" to get the same spatial surround sound effect "for free".

Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Forums!

I would recommend trying a regular pair of headphones on the controllers (Both) and check to see if the headphones work. If they do then the controller is just not compatible with the headset which is a known issue. If the headphones do not work with the
controllers, then it may be that the controllers port is not working anymore.

What I mean by headphones is a pair that normally come with your phone (Not apple headphones). Also, try to change the batteries in the controller as well as this may be an issue too.

Give this a try and let us know how it goes

To give a bit more info, when I take my batteries out and put them back in the controller connects but doesn't work. If I pull out the headphones from the headset adapter I can't use the headphones but the controller still worked but as soon as you pop
out the batteries the controller is toast until a hard boot.
