I would recommend an auto-detection, as you are using an adapter, this can avoid problems that can happen due to this.

Pixel quality will not be affected, however, this will depend on the resolution you are playing at, as latency may be influenced if you are running at a very high resolution with a high frame-rate, the adapter may not be able to transfer the 2 at the same time with excellence.

Yes, you can stream from your Xbox One X with OBS Studio using a DP to HDMI adapter, but you’ll still need a capture card. The adapter will get the HDMI signal from your Xbox, and the capture card will send that signal to your PC. Your GPU will handle rendering and encoding, but it won’t directly capture the Xbox output. Once everything’s hooked up, just add the capture card as a video source in OBS, and you’ll be good to go.

Hdmi to DP doesn’t work because DP isn’t bidirectional, which is required by the Xbox to handshake

That's what I would have thought as well, but on my PC I've used a DVI->HDMI converter to connect it to my TV, and that still gives me full sound. So I wonder if it's something to do with different HDMI standards?

DVI and HDMI are based on the same standard, where DP is completely different. They do sell HDMI to DP convertors that provide audio out, it still sometimes has to be run separately from the DP cable. Not all monitor companies implement the audio portion
of DP.

I'm going to disappoint you. Currently there are no HDMI 2.1 to DP 1.2 adaptors.

My guess is you've bought a DP to HDMI adaptor cable, correct? If you have, you've bought the wrong cable. These cables only go one way.

Buying an adaptor won't work anyway. Like I said earlier, there are no HDMI 2.1 or 2.0 to DP 1.2 cables. HDMI to DP cables are HDMI 1.4 which max out at 1080P @60Hz or 4K @30Hz, 1440 won't be an option.

They can't add Disport Port Support without a newly revised console with the port built in.
