Having trouble with the Xbox app on PC.

I recently upgraded to Windows 11 so I'm not sure if that is what is causing this issue I'm currently facing.

I attempted to preinstall "As Dusk Falls" through the Xbox PC app with my Xbox Game Pass. I noticed that the download stopped at 25% with an error:
    "Something unexpected happened.
Reporting this problem will help us understand it better. You can wait a bit and try again or restart your device. That may help.
    Error code: 0x80073d0d"

I tried to redo the installation with the same result. The next day I looked online and saw that some people were having issues with the preinstall for the game so I just chalked it up to preinstall issues. After the game officially came out, I tried to install it again and again getting the same error code message.

At one point when trying to install the game "As Dusk Falls" I saw a message underneath the "choose your installation path" dropdown box that said that I couldn't install this app on a different drive than the one y Xbox app is installed on.

After looking up some troubleshooting guides, I signed out of the Microsoft Store, the Xbox App itself, and did the advanced setting>reset on both apps. That did not fix the issue. I tried talking with the online help people who suggested the same thing and that didn't help again. I tried to change the installation path to the drive I use for my Xbox App. That didn't help. I tried switching the drives where the Xbox app installs to and that didn't work either. Then I figured I'd done too much and screwed up so much that I just completely uninstalled all games I had downloaded through the Xbox app and then signed out of and uninstalled the Xbox app itself. I reinstalled the Xbox app and signed back into both the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app. I tried to reinstall a game I had installed before I completely wiped them and it stayed at 0% download and 0% download speed for a long time, then when it finally started installing, it gave me the same Error code: 0x80073d0d.

The last the I tried was the "Reinstall the Gaming Services app on your Windows 11 device: Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.

    1. In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:

      get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
    2. In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:

      start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
    3. Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
    4. Restart your device and try to install the game again."
That method did not fix anything either. So as it stands, I CANNOT download/install anything off the Xbox app/Microsoft Store. They always stop mid-installation with the error code listed above. I do not know what else to do. Any help?

    :)

In this case, I would suggest you to start your computer on a clean boot state to see if any third party service or driver is causing this issue. Please refer to:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-t...

If the issue persists after the clean boot, I would say you would need to reset your operational system. You will not lose your files, games and apps. It will just replace all Windows system files with new ones so any corrupted file will be replaced.

Please go to Start > Settings (the gear icon) > Update & security > Recovery > Reset this PC. Choose Get started > Keep your files > Download from cloud > Follow the instructions.

You can also refer to the "Reset your PC" section at:

In this case, are you able to try to install the games on another drive/partition? But try to change the system settings for where new games and apps are installed instead of only the path inside Xbox app:

    - Go to Start (Windows Start) -> Settings -> System -> Storage -> Change where new content is saved (under 'More Storage Settings'). Change the setting "New Apps will install to:" to the drive you want to use. Restart your PC.

Then, please try to change the folder permission on the partition (you can do this on all partitions you have and want to test):

    - Press Windows + E and go to the drive where you want to install the games.

    - Locate the WindowsApps or XboxGames folder (check which one is being used by the Xbox app). Right-click on it and select Properties.

    - Go to the Security tab and select Advanced.

    - Click on Continue in the Permissions tab.

    - Select Change.

    - Click Advanced in the Select User or Group window, then Find now.

    - Select your user account and click on Ok.

    - Click on Ok and Apply on every window and close them.

After making the changes, restart the computer and check if you can now save the games to the selected drive.

Hello, . Thanks for reaching out! My name is Lucas. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be happy to assist you today.

I read your question carefully, and I know you already tried to reinstall the gaming services. But would you please try it again but following other steps too? Just to make sure. Please perform these steps with the Microsoft store and the Xbox app closed and make sure there are no games being downloaded or installed on both apps.

    - Go to start > Search for PowerShell > Right click > Run as administrator. Type the following command and press enter:

    get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

    - Press Windows + R and type in "regedit". Press enter.

    - Search for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services

    - Delete the folders "GamingServices", "GamingServices.net" (if they're still there).

    - Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Microsoft Store > Advanced Options > Repair, then Reset.

    - Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Xbox App > Advanced Options > Repair, then Reset.

    - Press Windows + R. Type TEMP and press enter. Delete all the files inside this folder. Repeat this step by typing %TEMP% and Prefetch. Delete everything on both folders too.

    - Press Windows + R. Type WSRESET and press enter.

    - Restart your computer. Run Powershell as administrator and run the following commands (one at a time):

    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

(this command can show you some errors, this is normal, just wait until it finishes)

    start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

    - Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt. Also sign in on the Microsoft store with your Microsoft account.

    - Restart your computer one more time. Open the Xbox App and sign in with the same account as the Microsoft store.

    - Check your computer region/country and language and please make sure it is the same as your Microsoft account (https://account.microsoft.com/profile). Also check your time zone and date/time is correct.

If the issue persists, please let me know.
    Hey Lucas,

I am sad to say that the issue still persists. I followed each step that you laid out and I'm still getting Error code: 0x80073d0d.

I don't know if these occurrences are significant or not but I should mention that whenever I reset the Microsoft Store app and the Xbox app, ONLY the Xbox app requires me to sign back in, the Microsoft Store launches with my account already logged in even after resetting. Also, whenever I reinstalled "Gaming Services" I have never gotten a UAC prompt pop up for me to have to select "Yes".

Thanks for continuing to bash your head against this with me, Lucas.

I've tried this method before with switching the drives where content gets installed but I tried the steps you listed and I am still experiencing the same error code issue. I truly have no idea what I have done to mess this up so badly lol.
