Having Trouble with Multiple Microsoft Accounts & Gamertags

I finally got around to transferring my Mojang/Minecraft account to a Microsoft account. In the process I accidentally created a new Microsoft account with my desired gamertag (). Then I transferred my Mojang account to my main Microsoft account, but it added a number to the end of my name (5721). I couldn't change it to since my accidental account still had it.

So I changed my accidental account to 222 so that would be available. I logged into my main Microsoft account, but it won't let me change to a username without the number on the end, it says "You already own that gamertag, if you’re happy with it you don’t need to make any changes."

I'm very much not happy with it, but it won't let me change. Help?

This 222 appears after a # symbol?
Or the gamertag is exactly like that?

Thank you, I ask this because when you have numbers after the # symbol. For the system it means that your have the OzzyKP gamertag.

In order to change OzzyKP5721 to the one without numbers, you may need to change first that gamertag to a completely different gamertag, for example, change OzzyKP5721 to OzzyKKPP and then check if OzzyKP without the numbers appears

PS: But keep in mind that this doesn't guaranteed that you're going to see the gamertag without the numbers available

I don't care about the 222, I'm trying to change the 5721. For that one (5721) it does have a # symbol, because when I made it I already had on my accidental account. That username is now available.

Hello Jadon, sorry to hear you're having trouble with your gamertag change.

I'm afraid the four digits after your gamertag are by design now. Xbox allows multiple users to use the same tag and the numbers just help differentiate your account from others.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Please follow the steps linked below to move your gamertag to another email address (please note that the email address cannot have another gamertag attached to it). You will not lose any progress made on your account
