Having issues with detection of my external hard drive

When I got online today, I was having a strange issue where when I clicked on one of my games it was not opening. It was just doing the animation that I clicked on it and nothing else. I instinctively decided to restart my console to fix the problem. When it turned back on, my console wasn’t connecting to the internet nor would my controller connect to the console. This is now happening every time I restart my console (which I’ve done a total of 4 times now and an additional time by unplugging the console). After about 2-5 minutes, the console connects to the wifi and the controller finally connects but for some reason ever since that first time I restarted, my external hard drive that I’ve been using will not connect to the console. It worked fine up until today for some unknown reason. I tried troubleshooting through my settings, various different usb slots, and checking for console updates but it says it’s up to date with the last update being February 19th. I don’t know what else to do. I know the hard drive is working because it has a light to show it’s on. I know it’s not the slot it’s plugged in, I know it’s been working fine for months. I’m completely at a loss for what the problem is. Please help.

I have the same issue. does not detect any external hard drives. only device it seems to detect was the controller.

When I added an external hard drive to my console the drive format was pretty quick.

If you have run through all of the steps listed below reference the external hard drive nor being detected and it is still not being detected then I would try to obtain a replacement external hard drive and hopefully this one should work correctly.

Okay the best I can do right is on my laptop. I’m not able to do the new simple volume thing because an error keeps occurring. I think it’s because either my laptop isn’t powerful enough or my drive is too big. An alert to “Stop running this script” just popped up and I’m not sure what it is referring to but apparently it’s slowing down my computer. I opened the properties and under general it says:

Under Device Status: this device is working properly.

Under Volumes, it says Status: Not initialized

Under Driver, it says I can update the driver for this device

Is any of this helpful or stuff I need to ignore. Would doing this on a library desktop be more effective? Should I seek some sort of tech place to see if they can repair it or should I just forget about it and try to buy a new 4 terabyte hard drive?

Got it! So it seems that the hard drive is somehow corrupted since it slows down your computer as well and you are getting some error too. The best this to do about this is either you have to get a tech to get this repaired or fixed. You can also get new one if you think that would be a hassle since it is not a guarantee that it can still be fixed.
