Have ultimate subscription but tells me I have to join ultimate to download a game

I'm sorry you are experiencing this with your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. No worries, let me help you sort this out.

It's important to note that this is a public user-to-user community forum, and none of us here work for Microsoft.

If I may ask, may I know which platform are you trying to use for your subscription, is it on Windows PC or Xbox console?

Kindly confirm if the subscription is active on your account by signing on to account.microsoft.com > services and subscription.

If the subscription is not showing as active it means you will need to purchase a new one or you are using a different account that has no subscription.

If the subscription is active, please try to perform the following workarounds using the same account:

Remove your account, power cycle, and re-add your account:

Here's how to remove your account:

> Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
> Select Profile & system > Settings > Account > Remove accounts.
> Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm.

Power Cycle:

> Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off. ​​​

> Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller. ​​​

Then re-add your account.

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
Select Profile & System > Add or switch > Add new.
Enter the email address for the Microsoft account that you want to add, and then select Enter.

Note: Make sure that you do not select Get a new account unless you want to create a new Microsoft account.

Enter the password for your Microsoft account, and then select Enter.
Review the Microsoft Service Agreement and Privacy Statement, and then select I Accept.
Follow the steps to configure your Sign-In, security & PIN preferences to finish adding your profile to the console.

Check if you will be able to download any game from the Xbox game pass library.

Any time left on prior subscriptions you had before joining Xbox Game Pass Ultimate would convert and stack as time for Ultimate and the previous subscriptions would be automatically canceled since Ultimate includes Gold and Game Pass for Console and PC.
You can view the history of your subscriptions here https://account.microsoft.com/services/. Also to note is that Ultimate will never revert back to either subscription
at the end of its cycle. Once Ultimate expires or is canceled, the user will need to re-join any of the subscriptions manually.

It is impossible to have Ultimate and any of the other two subscriptions concurrently, so by canceling Ultimate, you also canceled your access to Xbox Live Gold features. The Game Pass subscription you have running currently would have to have been joined
after you canceled Ultimate because as mentioned before, you cannot have Ultimate and another subscription active at the same time. You can only add time to Ultimate if that is the subscription that is running. Your

Microsoft Account order history will also have a record of any purchases or renewal's and then you can compare the dates with what you see in the subscription and services section.

I think you misunderstood the Ambassadors' response. You cannot access online features or join party chats with just an Xbox Game Pass subscription. You need to have an active Gold or Ultimate subscription to do that. There is 3 separate Xbox Game Pass subscriptions;
Xbox Game Pass for Console, Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Only Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes Xbox Live Gold and the two Xbox Game Pass subscriptions (Console & PC). If you only have the Console or PC Xbox Game Pass, then you will not
be able to access Xbox Live Gold features. You will need to re-subscribe to Xbox Live Gold to do that.

As far as I can tell this will be converted to Ultimate via a specific conversion rate.

My friend bought me a 12-month gold as a gift. And right now there is offer at the xbox store to join Ultimate for 1$ but it's only a month. If i use first the code for gold and then join Ultimate for 1$, do i get a 12-month Ultimate subscription? Sorry
for all these questions but i'm a little confused since it's my first time and want to join Ultimate.

You will need the ultimate edition or download it with a Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription as stated in earlier replies.

If you don’t have the Ultimate Edition or a Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you will still be able to obtain both Halo: Reach characters through a pack in the store at a later stage. It is confirmed that it will be sold separately in the future.
