well all Xbox 360 disc drives are getting pretty elderly, but also, it's more stress to load a disc in the vertical position, I never recommend anyone do it except on a series X

My fan was making a clicking noise, so I used the stand and set it in a vertical position and now it's all good.

"Make sure your Xbox 360 is horizontal and not vertical. For some reason when you put your Xbox in the vertical position it make more noise than if it were horizontal. If it is horizontal, is it scratching your discs? If it is scratching your dics then there

If a game is installed it doesn't "make the game run with less noise" it cancels the use of the disk and plays it from the hard drive... not to be disrespectful but just saying

It's definitely the disc because the noise stops when I eject the tray. It's hard to know whether ejecting the disc before shutting down makes any difference because the problem is so intermittent, but the volume of noise seems unlikely to be coming from
the fan - it's *really* loud. It sounds like one of those old 40x or 50x CD-ROM drives they used to put in PCs.
