Hardrive Problem or Console? (2 Problems Please Help)

Hello Microsoft,

After no problems for the past few years out of the blue today any game located on my $100+ 4TB external hardrive refused to load up for no apparent reason and I keep receiving the infamous "this game took too long to start" error message. I had over 50
games installed on it and I believe that it is now corrupted or something as all the games on it don't work, though it shows up on my Xbox fine. Very disappointed, I decided to install the core games that I play on my very limited internal storage. When I
attempt to download games on to the internal storage it will simply say installing and stay at 0% for hours. There is no way I can stop this from happening (restarting or anything) and I have to patiently wait for it to start downloading. My download speeds
on my PC and when I do a speed test are usually very solid, but finally when my game starts to download it tops out at a horrid 20.55 Mbps speed with pauses in the download lasting about 30 minutes at a time occurring every more or less 15 minutes. Now I'm
just sitting here with the second game I'm trying to put back on my Xbox at 4.2% wondering what to do next. I was just wondering if A) there could be any way to salvage the external hardrive as it literally appears fine but the games don't work B) if there
could be any reason for the download speeds being low on just my Xbox but nothing else or is it just bad universally now (since Xbox Live seems to not work every other week now as seen with the outage last night) and C) Is it time to get a new Xbox. I'm just
trying to get my OG Xbox to survive like 5 more months for the new consoles release.
