Handshake bug that occurs when I turn on the XSX on from standby

I had this error today. I traced it to the TV. it had locked up the HDCP handshake. I turned the TV off completely at the wall (standby won't fix it) and when I turned it back on the Blu-Ray played correctly.

I may have a solution to this.

It may have to do with a hdmi handshake issue with standby mode.

The best simple solution is to when you start encountering the flickering, press home button exit out (saves game as quick resume) go into settings, sleep mode and start up, restart now.

Once you restart the issue shouldnt repeat.

When the xbox and tv is turned on they handshake/communicate with one another. I think standby mode somehow corrupts this process by keeping it on. I have switched to energy save so that the console isnt powered on all the time and possibly doesnt lead to handshake corruption.

XSX UK version has no 'Instant On' mode either. My 2 options for 'Sleep mode' are 'Energy saver', or 'Standby'.

I noticed my XSX was venting warm air in Standby mode 9hrs after use, so I switched to Energy saver mode. But then game downloads whilst off didn't continue to download.

Apparently, an update changed things to allow 'game updates' in Energy saver mode when off, but 'game updates' are just patches?

I have tried ES mode to DL Game Pass games, but they pause when the XSX is off. Remote DLs via the app won't work either in ES mode.

So, I've had to turn it back to standard power-greedy 'Standby' mode to DL games whilst off - although it seems very slow compared to when the XSX is fully on.

I think games only DL in ES mode for the first 1m45s, at which point you hear the XSX rev up and go silent again - and in that time my console has only DL-ed about 0.02GB, and at that rate it'd take about 1 day to DL a big game! My 'fibre broadband' is pretty poor though: The XSX in-built speed test says the DL speed is 15Mbps, at best.

As a first if this is occurring I would try a full power cycle by shutting down the console and then unplug the console from the power wait for 5minutes and then turn it back on.

When you turn it off the normal way it goes into a sort of standby mode and a full power cycle resets all the cache.

I have the same issue with my WD. It stays on when my Xbox1 is in standby. I've been informed by WD that the drive will enter it's own state of standby and it'll be fine. It still bugs me however that it's on when my Xbox is in standby/instant on but I guess
it's either that or pull the USB every time I turn off my Xbox.

I'd be inclined to contact Seagate and ask them if it's sapping the life of the drive being constantly on.
