Guide menu won't show when playing backwards compatible Original Xbox game on Series X

Hi all,

I've been enjoying my new Series X and playing lots of different games to try out the backwards compatibility features.

Mostly it's been great but I'm having an issue with one particular Original Xbox game.

MX Unleashed

When I play this game, the guide menu won't work and the
Xbox won't turn off unless i hold down the power button for 3 seconds.

On pressing the guide button, nothing will happen but i can hear the "swoosh" noise of the menu popping up. Sometimes the game will crash and be unplayable after this. But usually if I press 'B' I can continue playing.

I've played other Original Xbox games which don't have this issue. The guide menu in
Ninja Gaiden Black and Psychonauts both work fine with no issues.

I've already tried uninstalling the game, performing a factory reset, and then reinstalling the game, but it didn't fix it.

Hi Feirsteax,

Did some research and looks like this is an issue with this title. I don't know who would be the party to look into it, but it will likely need to be patched on the game end.

The backwards compatibility team is working on the Series X so there won't be anymore games from the 360/original Xbox made back compatible until after the Series X launch.

That said, I would love to see Gotham City Impostors made playable on the Series X. That game was so much fun!

Yes Microsoft will continue to support Backwards compatibility with Xbox original and xbox 360 games, with the line up of thousands more available to play on the X Series.

Like the WiiU you can play nearly any Wii Games because of Backwards Compatible & it was a Wii Menu application that can be installed when a Original Wii Disc is in.

You've oversimplified this process. The WiiU plays all Wii games not because of a simple app, but because the WiiU contains the same hardware architecture as the original Wii, just a fair bit more advanced.

The Xbox Series X|S does the same thing with Xbox One games. All Xbox One titles (bar the Kinect games) run on Series hardware because said hardware is the same archectually, just more advanced.

In fact call calling Series X 'backwards compatible' is disingenuous to the system. Xbox One games can actually perform better on Series hardware, with better frame rates and stability. Series X|S are better described as 'forwards compatible'.

I believe what is meant by "full" is that all current gen games and any games that were already made available via the backwards compatibility program (Xbox 360, original Xbox) will be playable on the Series X. So basically "full" means everything you can
currently play on an Xbox One right now you will be able to play on the Series X.

But those 360 and original Xbox games that are not currently backwards compatible still will not be playable on the Series X. That's due to licensing issues with the older games.
