Group Xbox Original games separately from Xbox 360 games

Hello gamer,

many backward supported games from the Original Xbox need a live update (update is performed for each game separately) to get compatible with the Xbox 360 system so in order to play these games you need live connection.

Did your hard drive come with the console or did you purchase it separately? Can you try any other Xbox original games to play in your Xbox 360? I ask because only official Microsoft hard drives have the emulation software needed to play Xbox original
games. If you purchased the hard drive separately, it may be a knock-off and unable to play original games. The ability to play original games pretty much comes down to the hard drive most times.

In order for backwards compatible games to work on a 360, it requires and official MS 360 hard drive. If your console did not come with one, you would need one to play the game. If you have one but it was bought separately from somehwere like ebay, there
is a high chance it could be a knock off and will not work with original Xbox games.

What do you mean that you're using a 250GB external hard drive? Are you using a USB external hard drive? External USB Hard drives won't work for playing original Xbox games.

If you are using an original Xbox 360 console where the hard drive fits on top make sure that the hard drive you have is an original hard drive and not a 3rd party hard drive. If you've purchased a hard drive for this console separately from a website like
eBay or Amazon Marketplace it's likely that you've purchased a 3rd party hard drive.

Only original Xbox 360 hard drives that are manufactured by Microsoft will work on your Xbox 360. Otherwise, they would give you this error whether it was an original Xbox game from the Xbox LIVE marketplace or on a disc.

Games that are added to the backwards compatibility list are never removed. There are two separate versions of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the original Xbox version and the Xbox 360 remaster. Only the Xbox 360 remaster is available on Xbox One.
