    Got Games Recovered From Bad Hard Drive Cannot Figure Out How to Get XBOX to Read Recovered...


    I recently had my external hard drive go bad so I could not install any new games. The company acknowledged this and was able to recover my files from the hard drive and transfer them to a new one. Great.

    When I got the hard drive back, I could see the game files on my PC, but it is not readable on the XBOX. I don't want to reformat the drive because that will wipe the games off, but I want to use it for games and not media so formatting it seems like the
    only option? This doesn't make sense to me.

    I can read the files on my PC, but I do not know what the file types mean and cannot find anything online related to this.

    Has anyone else ran into this before? Thanks!

    Hi there,

    Yes, they are saved on Cloud storage also. :) You are prompted to choose the location of saved data, whenever you launch a 360 game on X1, and that's the only option I've ever seen.

    Thanks for the tip. However, I do have some games that are Xbox360 or original Xbox backwards compatible, which likely use saved data. Would the data for these be stored on the cloud, or could I recover the data if they aren't?

    Hi Brian,

    Thanks for coming to the forums. If the games are digitally purchased, it will not be much of an issue to re-download them. When the company recovered them they are probably written for PC to read. The Xbox will not be able to read these and need to be reinstalled.
    As all your save data is saved to the cloud, when you reinstall and launch the game it will retrieve your save data from the cloud.

    Hi, you're wasting your time trying to do this. Format and download/install the games is the only way to go.
