if this is happening on the Xbox One console then please try the manual power cycle steps like mentioned on the following link, be sure to wait at least 60 seconds before powering on again:

Also be sure to try and see what happens on xbox.com or Xbox app.

There are a lot of games with single player experiences and games that allow Split-Screen local multiplayer without a need for a Gold subscription.

According to the store page, Rocket League should have a local Split Screen option, that doesn't require a Gold membership.

Make sure you or your kid chooses a game mode that allows local split screen play. That way you won't need a Gold membership.

However, if your grandchild wants to play online against multiple other players, a Gold membership is necessary.

those gold trials are not the same as gold membership/subscriptions, you still need a valid gold membership/subscription to access the store you are still showing as a silver/free member.
