Gifting games to friends failed

My friend tried to buy me a skin for a game and it failed but it took his money I didn't get any notifications from xbox live and I checked my ready to install I've been waiting for an hour would I be able to get the skin for free or can he get a refund
(he used a gift card)

You can gift a game just once with no fee involved. The caveat is that your friend must have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and once the game has been gifted to him, he cannot gift it again.

Keep in mind that gifting only works if you're in the same region. So if he is in another country, he won't be able to gift you items.

Never had a problem with gift cards between different regions before. It failed when it was anything else, but gift cards seemed to work fine.

I simply purchase a gift card through Xbox, in my current currency of course, and provide the code to my friend in a different region.

Works fine and avoids lying about your region (aka breaking the terms).

Gifting games to your friends can only be done if you are in the same region.

For example you will not be able to gift a game to a friend if you live in US and the friend in the UK.

Seems that gift games is a Xbox One games geatures only, you can't gift Xbox 360 game... a workaround is gift a 5$ card to your friend.

Unfortunately you can't gift games if your friend lives in a different country. He will have to either gift to another friend in the US or request a refund. It does state at purchase that gifting is only available in the same country.
