Getting Xbox One X connected properly to a LG C9 and an Onkyo RZ3100???

So I have an new LG C9 OLED which has hdmi 2.1 and I want to take full advantage of all the new features that the XBOX One X allows.

Currently, I have the Xbox connected to my Onkyo, which does not currently support hdmi 2.1, and then it is connected to the C9 tv.

The Xbox allows most of the video modes but does not allow VRR, or auto-low latency. I think that's probably because the Onkyo doesn't support hdmi 2.1 currently. Before the TV upgrade, everything was run through the Onkyo without any hitches. Now with
those additional features, I need help.

How do I set up the Xbox, C9 and Onkyo to get all the features activated, plus get great sound from my Onkyo? I suspect I need to connect the Xbox directly to an hdmi input on the C9 and then possibly run an optical cable from the Xbox to the Onkyo for great
sound? Yes?/No? Also, I'm then uncertain what configuration to set up in the Onkyo settings panel to allow the sound to work while in Game mode. I would take a guess and assign the Game mode to an optical input 1. Sorry if this sounds complicated because I'm
not particularly savvy when it comes to setting up AV equipment

If anyone has knowledge on how to help me properly set this up, step-by-step, I would be extremely grateful!!

I think you may have answered your own question

I have very little experience with the AV side but I have recently been looking at getting a monitor and connecting an Xbox, a PC and my raspberry pi via a DAC/ amplifier and I have been looking at how
it all would connect /function.

You mentioned sending audio via optical and I would say that is the way to go in this instance. You are freeing up the data sent via the HDMI cable and also bypassing the pass through on the amplifier, so it makes for a cleaner path for both signals to travel
to the amplifier and TV. The TV would deal with images and the amplifier with sounds

this may help with accessing the new features made available without there being issues.

As for which setting is best, I cant really answer that but it may be worth playing about in the settings and if stuck maybe looking at joining an AV Forum. Your local independent AV retailer could also help, so worth considering reaching out to them too.

Obviously not a monitor, but the LG C9 is hands down the best display for the One X. It’s literally the only one that fully supports all of the One X’s full HDMI 2.1 specs, plus it’s GSync compatible and just generally an amazing display.

I've got the same problem. Xbox one x to LG OLED C9 to Samsung soundbar over ARC. I'm getting video before audio. I've tried all settings on TV and xbox. Looking into this, people on LG forums and Sonos are saying its Xbox at fault anything over Hdmi is
behind. I don't know if its true but I don't get any audio lag over optical. Just Hdmi.

I have an Xbox One X connected to the receiver which is in turn connected to a 4K LG OLED.

I have previously had the same xbox working with Dolby Atmos and a different Onkyo receiver a few months ago.

It does seem very much like an xbox bug as no error is shown, the settings just revert to the previous mode (either Dolby or DTS).
