    Getting less than 1mbps wireless. Xbox also will not connect to 5ghz on virgin media


    Unfortunately I can no longer use a wired connection so wifi is my only option but I was getting 300mbps

    I'm with virgin media, using xbox one s and whilst my router settings display the speed as around 120mbps, the xbox speed test and download speeds float around 1mbps and downloading a game takes me 2 weeks

    In fact the xbox wont even connect to the internet unless I go into router settings and manually turn of 5ghz and use 2.4ghz only

    I have tried closing all applications, I have changed DNS, MAC, power settings etc. All other wireless devices are getting between 50-150 speeds. I have also tried disconnecting everything except the xbox. Nothing I have found online in the past year has helped

    There is an active incompatibility issue between Xbox One and Virgin Media at this time, and the dev team are currently investigating the issue alongside an investigation with Virgin Media.

    To help locate the issue, please answer the following questions:

    - Which method of connection do you use? Wired or Wireless?

    - If wireless, which band? 2.4ghz or 5ghz?

    - Do you disconnect from Xbox Live at all?

    I had to get a new router because my virgin media super hub 2 was rubbish for the xbox one so i got a netgear NightHawk R700. i use 5Ghz but sometimes find 5Ghz more prone to losing connection. prob with xbox one is sometimes it needs a port forward or DnZ

    DSL isnt so bad, it's extremely slow. My Connection is less than 1mbps but I have no issues online with it. You can't get those options, can you get a wireless 4GLTE modem from Verizon, if LTE is available in your area.

    Alright, first off are you using the built in WiFi on the Xbox, if so it can only pick up 2.4GHz and if you have a "Wireless Networking Adapter" it can pick up both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. It can be that your Virgin Super Hub box is only a 5GHz and thats why Xbox
    can't find that wireless connection.

    Since you have the wireless adapter i would get a router that has simultaneous dual band so you can run your laptops and other devices off the 2.4ghz and run your xbox off the 5ghz wireless N (AT THE SAME TIME). Wireless N is capable of much higher speeds,
    and the 5ghz range is much less crowded. note: you can use wireless n on the 2.4ghz but 2.4ghz is usually more crowded.

    I recommend linksys/ cisco equipment....i just purchased and E3200 and it is nice.

    Also do a connection/ network test in windows media center and check the performance, mine has all the bars even in the HD... : D
