Getting constant "Can't Download" when trying to download games.

Started my own thread because it was suggested to do so. I keep getting "Can't Download" when trying to download almost anything. This started about around the time the update preview program started. I was able to download the Ryder White DLC for Dead Island.
I may be wrong but it seems to only be happening when trying to download Games with Gold.

Yes I have more than enough space on my HDD

Yes my region is the same as my account and has been since XBL started.

Yes I have slow internet 3mb download speed via a DSL connection, this has not been a problem for roughly 10 years nor is it a problem on my other consoles (XB1, PS4, PS3, Wii U etc....)

No I am not downloading anything else at the same time on any other device, console, etc...

It seems as though if I try to do anything other than stare at the active download screen I will get the dreaded "Can't download" message, I am currently watching my console attempt to download Assassin's Creed 2, I will leave it alone until it either finishes
downloading or I get the "Can't download" message. I will post back with an update.

Gears of War download issues

Hey there i've been trying to download Gears of Wars (free with gold) and when the pogress bar reaches 76% the download is gone for the list and the message "Can't download gears of war" Seriously MS, free games with gold and i can't have mine, that's
BS right? Please post some advice about how should i proceed..

 

Id do two things

3Mbs is slow too slow for large downloads

Harfreset your modem and router for 5mins

Also max out your mtu

Ps3 would have the same issue with large downloads but not small

Wii downloads are rarely large

Ps4 and xbox one use background downloads whoch doesnt require as much speed

Also since assasins creed 2 was region locked does your account region match your actual region?

 

Dlcs are rarely big so speed wont be a factor for those but full games for gold rather then arcade titles tend to be large and require more speed

Please do tell me why 3mbs was plenty fast enough for 9 years and all of a sudden not fast enough, I would love to hear an answer for this. I have never had better internet than I have now (it's not a choice, I have the best offered in my area), I have NEVER
since 2005 when the 360 came out had trouble downloading anything, why is my internet all of a sudden not good enough?

 

Again if your speed isnt consistent large downloads cannot hanfle rhe errors

Please do a speedtest

If you didnt do large downloads before you wouldnt have seen it

Games for gold full games are 6-8giggs

Arcade games and dlx is 2gigs max

 

Nowadays 5mb is minimun for large downloads ask your isp

Any reputable isp will tell you that 3mbs is for lite browsing and small downloads not for gaming and large downloads

Even pc gaming wont accept 3mbs

 

Lol, do you read my posts? I HAVE downloaded games on demand before, including Halo Reach which is a much larger file size than Assassin's Creed 2. I have also downloaded numerous large file downloads on Xbox one, PS4 AND PS3 without problem. If 3mb is no
longer fast enough to download games than Microsoft changed something with the 360.

Anyway update I left the Assassin's Creed download going without moving from the Active Downloads screen and it downloaded just fine. So this problem is not my internet connection. [sarcasm] Unless you think leaving it on that screen made my internet connection
much better [/sarcasm]. If I could get a response from someone who actually knows what the problem is that would be great.

 

Ask your isp they will tell you large downloads require more bandwidth

Why dont you goto any reputable website its not rocket science they will tell you the same thing

Even sony will tell you 3mbs isnt enough.

If you look at most games 3mbs is considered laggy you cant possiblely believe thst lag wont affect large downloads

There is no way youcan say you can actually say you didnt experience lag in a game with that type of connection

It wouldnt be a problem with ps4 or xbox one didnt you read? They do background downloads which means they are passive not active they have built in chips to handle background wnd foreground thry dont need the extra speed

Ps3 also downloads in the background

Keeping the screen active actually puts the priority to your xbox download

Vs backing out which puts it on thr background which means you arent giving it priority and it can slow down

 

I am not saying the 3mb speed won't lag on MP games, I am not talking about playing MP. My problems consist solely of downloading on the 360. Something has happened in the last two months, nothing has changed on my end except for being in the 360 update
preview program.

My question for YOU, is why were my downloads fine for 9+ years up until two months ago? I HAVE downloaded large game files before I started having this problem with my 360 (Some examples are Red Faction Gorilla, Crackdown, Bully, Banjo Kazooie N+B, Halo
Reach, Dishonored, etc...) And never had a problem. I do not know why you avoid the facts here.

I do know in the past when I was downloading and playing another game, when the game I was playing would access the internet I would get "Blank game download has stopped" but then it would restart o it's own, this seems to have changed to "Can't Download"
and then takes the game out of my active downloads list.

I do not think that the large number of people having this problem recently has anything to do with internet speeds, it seems to me to be a problem with the server that handles the downloads.

 

To help others that may also be having this problem it seems that if you leave the 360 alone on the active downloads screen and don't touch it it will download fine. This has worked three times for me so far on Assassin's Creed 2, SSX and Saint's Row 3.

And just for testing purposes while Saint's Row was downloading on my 360 I tried 1- Surfing the web, 2- Playing online MKX on my XB1, and 3 downloading large game updates on my PS4. None of those things caused the 360 download to stop. I honestly do not
think this is a bandwidth problem.

This problem has been happening to me for months and I agree with you that your connection is not the problem. My connection is 75megs and I regularly get the cant download error. Its infuriating.

Either xbox live is the problem or going by your suggestion a bug in the background downloads feature could be causing it.

 

I have 100Mbs consistently and I get the "Can't download" frequently.
