Getting a name that no one has without a hashtag

So I want this gamertag overtake, but when i went to go see if someone has it on Xbox no one does. But I went to go change it and it wouldn’t let me get the name with out have the dumb hashtag on the end. So what can I do to get it.

Hello TakeoverSmile71, The Gamertags attribution system is automatic by the system, if you are trying to catch some Gamertag that is available but the system does not let you, it is because it must be on suspension for some reason, and you will not be able to select it.

Can I still get a Gamertag without a suffx?

"Yes. There are still plenty of unique, 12-character-maximum gamertags that don’t require a suffix.

Note that only gamertags made with Latin-based alphabets (derivations of A, B, C, D, etc.) are eligible to be new gamertags with no suffix at this time."

They may still be using their account on other Microsoft services. There's no true way to know how inactive an account is.

There are multiple people using overtake as a gamertag. So even if one person changes the tag, there are still others using it, so you'd get the suffix.

I have tried to fine over names but all the name I come out with are taken by inactive accounts. Like the account overtqke has one game and has zero gamer score. So why are these account that are inactive. What the point of making account just for them not to play or use the account.

I dunno where you are looking but overtake ia taken and with a lot of people with hashtags too

With simple names like that it's unlikely not to be not taken.

You are just going to have to come up with a different or unique spelling

Fyi spaces and caps don't matter

Ir has to be totally different for it to be unique

When searching for a friend you need to be very very specific with exact context

Fyi the xbox app is probably the best way tk find out if a name is taken cause iT shows you the different versions and if there are different versions that means you cant take it without caps or a unique spelling

If anyone else had the name abet a hashtag version no-one else including the op will be able.to get the og gamertag again without a hashtag since it is existing
