    Hello Sarah! I'm Kris and I'd be happy to help you with your question.

    I know with one of the updates, they disabled Text Chat by default. Have you double checked (and anyone else know that you play with) that the Text chat is enabled?

    Options > Game > Text Chat.

    You must have played Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition before December 31st to receive the previous Gears titles.
