Gears of war 2 is freezing on my xbox 360 and xbox one??

Hey guys, so recently before an update to xbox I was able to play my disk copy of Gears of War 2 on my xbox 360, but since the update, my 360 now freezes when I attempt to play it.

I tested it on my brother's 360 which didn't have the update and it worked, but then I updated his 360 and now it freezes just like it did on my 360.

Then my friend tried Gears of War 2 on his xbox one and it froze as well.

This is my favorite game of all time and now I'm unable to play it. It's extremely frustrating.

I think this may be an issue that was introduced with the new xbox update, I post this in hopes that you guys at Microsoft can fix it.

Please. Please fix this issue.

Freezing On The Main Menu

I've been having this problem with Gears of War 2 where the game keeps freezing at the main menu whenever I try to play. I have tried another Gears 2 disc, and clearing the cache, and it still freezes. The game works fine with the other profiles on my Xbox
360, it just seems to be mine that it keeps freezing on. Is there any way I can fix this problem?

Have you tried using a different disc game in your console to test it?

 

Yes, I have 2 new good looking copies of gears 2 and just yesterday was playing it on my brother's xbox 360.

Then today I played a bit of it before deciding to update the 360, but then after the update his xbox began freezing on gears 2 just like my 360.

I tested all my other games (a fairly large collection) with both xboxes to make sure that they worked, and all but gears 2 was fine.

Even gears of war 1 and gears of war 3 work. Only gears 2 freezes.

I don't know what to do besides contact you guys about it, I really love gears of war 2 and not being able to play it anymore is devastating.

I recommend trying to delete the games most recent title update first. You can do so by going into your "Settings" under "System" then where it says "Storage" find the Gears of War 2 folder in your Games and Apps and delete the one what says TU or Title
update. If the problem persists try the steps listed in this helpful support article: Troubleshoot problems with an update to your Xbox 360 console.
Solution 7 is a good one to look into here it is.

1. Clear the system cache. To do this, see the "Clear the system cache" section above.
   
2. Roll back and then reinstall system updates. To do this:
3. Press the Guide button on your controller.
4. Go to settings and select System.
5. Select Storage.
6. Enter the following button sequence: X, LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X.
   
7. Select the option to roll back all system updates that are installed. The console will restart automatically and then download the updates again.
   

 

Ok, I tried both of those solutions, but neither fixed the problem.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the title update for gears 2, all that was there was my saved progress and the map packs, and then I rolled my 360 back and re-updated. But gears 2 is still freezing.

I even installed the game and deleted my map packs, those didn't help either. I also tried the other CD, but it froze too

I can play it without the update, but I don't want to leave my 360 un-updated and only play gears 2.

Being that is the only game affected by this it could be something with the update and that game. We suggest waiting a bit and see if a patch or something comes out. You can also look on the
forums of the game, and see if anyone else having similar issue. lately a lot of different issues been going on with Xbox 360 games.

After reading through the original post and the replies, we understand that there is an error occurring with Gears of War 2 freezing while playing on both an Xbox One console and an Xbox 360 console. We also understand that this occurs after an update to
the OS is applied.

To further investigate this, as it is a disc that is in use, we suggest that the disc undergo a bit further of an inspection by having you follow both our
Xbox 360 Disc Drive Solution and
My Xbox One game won’t start or freezes during gameplay support articles.

If it comes to it, would it be possible for you to attempt using a different disc copy to test if corruption may have occurred on your disc?

The worry I have about waiting for an update is the games age.

Gears of war 2 is a decently old game, so im not sure if anyone is actually making new updates to it anymore.

Also I followed the link, but it only led to a blank page on the gears of war website. I searched the site forums, but there was only stuff on gears 4 and 5.

ok, I think I know what the issue is.

Gears 2 is freezing only on my profile, I tried it with other profiles and the game worked fine, but as soon as I sign in the game freezes.

I looked the issue up and it appears to be an issue a number of people are having, some sort of profile corruption. Ive tried deleting my saves and deleting/recovering my account, but neither of those fixed the problem.

The issue with using a different profile to play this game, is that I have sunk hundreds of hours into this game to obtain the achievements and attempt to 100% it.

Losing the ability to play on my profile means I now have to restart everything, and getting things such as the achievement for playing 1999 matches wont be easy to obtain again.

If there is anything you guys can do to address this issue, me and the rest of the gears of war 2 community, would greatly appreciate it.

The update I was referring to earlier was for the console not the game. I will continue to search for a fix on this matter. In the meantime you can check it once in a while with the profile you want to play on. Sometimes these things work themselves out
also.
