You just need to be connected to download the compatible version, you don't need any xbox live gold subscritpion to do it. You will need the gold subscritpion only if you want to play some online multiplayer games.

Hi, if you have an active gamepass ultimate (GPU) subscritpion you can redeem other subscritpion code such as gold and gamepass basic, but they will be converted automaticallywith a fixed ratio to gamepass ultimate, in your case 12 months of gold corresponds
to 4 months of GPU.

If you want to have only an active gold subscription you will need to turn off GPU recurring billing, wait for GPU expiration and then start with a new gold subscritpion.

Do you have a base Gamepass or a Gamepass Ultimate subscritpion?

Because there is a huge difference... if you have the base gamepass you can definetly have a separate gold subscritpion, I had this situation in the past.

But if you have the gamepass ultimate the situation is different since all the other subscriptions are absorbed by the ultimate.

In general if you cancel a subscription you will immediately lose all the benefits, for example if you cancel the gamepass you will not be able to play any gamepass game immediately.

If you only cancel the recurring billing you will maintein all the beniefist up to the point it has been paid to.

Just purchased xbox series x with all access - if my current game pass subscritpion is automatically renewed each month - do i
need to turn off auto renewal or will it auto renew when the two years are up (you get 2 years of gamepass with all access).
