Gaming Services not running, can't play games

First, welcome to the Xbox community and we're sorry you're having this issue. Usually, this is an issue that is related to the Gaming Services application, the issue can be resolved by fixing it, however, some users have reported that this is no longer working. Anyway, I suggest you try the solutions below, please.

First make sure you are using the latest version of windows, to do this follow the instructions below.

Select the Start button and then go to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update.

- If there are no updates to be made, please proceed with the solutions below.

Solution 1:

Open RegEdit as an administrator and delete the following Services:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet]

PC reboot

Install gaming service like you would normally

Solution 2:

Go to Windows settings
Applications
Applications and Features
Look for Gaming Services
Click on it
Advanced options
Tap repair

- If it doesn't work, try the alternative below.

Download the Create Windows 10 installation media application from the link below, at the end of the download run the application, and then follow the instructions given by the program at the end click on upgrade. Rest assured none of your files will be lost, this is a system restore that will try to fix this error.

Thanks, I tried both solutions and neither worked, I'll try the restore option Tuesday have to work all day today and tomorrow, just sucks I'm paying for the service and can't use it right now 😔

It just gets stuck on installing the service. Only time it doesn't get stuck is if I clean install the service after uninstalling it

same happened to me just today i was openning minecraft to play some bedwars and it just keeps on sending me to gaming services on microsoft store i cant play at all

It just happened to me at dawn, I did everything, both repairing the applications and reinstalling the game services.



check in the windows services and the GamingServicesNet works fine but the GamingServices does not run and if it is in the location that says but the error 1060 appears the specified service does not exist as an installed service.



The truth is that I don't know what to do anymore after reinstalling the game services many times, restarting my computer and resetting the applications.

I solved that problem for Win 11 today with help from MS Support. While this problem is pretty easy to fix on Win 10 (just reset both Gaming Services and Xbox app in system - > Apps -> Advanced options and then reboot), there is a little more work to do when it comes to Win 11. What works for me was simply change account for my daughter account, run Xbox app there and then run the game (in my case that was Halo Infinite). Gaming Services on this other account wasn't corrupted and it just overwrite my corrupted version of Gaming Services from main account. Then you just need to reboot your pc and then go to system -> apps -> Xbox app -> 3 dots menu ->reset and after that reboot your pc again. Without resetting the Xbox app you will probably not be able to sign in into your Xbox account after overwriting data in Gaming Services from the other account.

It works just fine for me, especially I just can't erase old Gaming Service trace from my registry on Win 11, so i think the only way is to overwrite.

One thing though - i don't know how it will work with fresh created second account, the one I have used was created around a month ago just after installing fresh Win 11.
