    xbox live gold should not be a thing to play games like fortnite.

    They announced in January that they are working on removing the requirement for Gold for free-to-play games like Fortnite. They have not announced when yet.

    Currently no. Microsoft announced in January that they are working towards removing the Gold requirement to play free-to-play games. It hasn't started yet and they have not announced when it will start.
