Games in Game Pass not loading to the proper resolution?

I understand that you may be experiencing a problem with the game's default resolution enlarging the screen when you play via Game Pass on your PC, and I understand the inconvenience this may cause you.



This could be due to a DPI scaling issue or the default resolution setting of the game, you can follow the instructions below to troubleshoot the issue.



1.Adjusting Windows DPI settings

Locate the game's .exe file (if it's a Game Pass game, it's usually in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\, but this is a protected folder, so try to find the path in the Xbox app after you “Manage” games).

Right-click on the game's .exe file and select Properties.

Switch to the Compatibility tab.

Click Change High DPI Settings.

Under the High DPI Scaling Alternative option:

- Under the High DPI zoom replacement option, check Replace high DPI zoom behavior.

- Under the Zoom Performer option, select Applications.

Click OK, and then apply the changes.



2.Force the game to start in windowed mode

Right-click on the shortcut to the game (if there is no shortcut, create your own).

Select Properties.

At the end of the Target field, add one of the following parameters (different parameters may apply to different games):

-windowed

-w (forced windowed mode, applies to some games)

-noborder (borderless window mode).

Click Apply and OK.

Launch the game, go to Settings, adjust the correct resolution, and then try switching back to fullscreen mode again.



3.Disable Full Screen Optimization

Right-click on the .exe file of the game and select Properties.

Go to the Compatibility tab.

Check Disable full screen optimization.

Click Apply and OK.

Restart the game to see if it is back to normal.



4.Manually modify the game configuration file

Find the game's configuration file (usually in the following location):

C:\Users\Your username\Documents\\

C:\Users\Your username\AppData\Local\

C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\

Possibly in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\(need permission to unlock)

Look for files that contain “config” or “settings”, such as Config.ini, Settings.json, UserPreferences.xml.

Open the file (using Notepad or Notepad++) and find a resolution setting similar to the following:

ResolutionWidth=1920

ResolutionHeight=1080

Modify it to your monitor's resolution.

Save the file, close and restart the game.



5.Update Graphics Card Driver & Disable GPU Scaling

To update the graphics card driver:

Press Win + X and select Device Manager.

Expand Display Adapters and locate your graphics card (NVIDIA/AMD/Intel).

Right-click on your graphics card and select Update Driver.

Select Automatically search for drivers and install the update if available.

Or: NVIDIA users: Open GeForce Experience and check for updates. AMD users: Open AMD Adrenalin Software and check for updates.

Turn off GPU scaling (for NVIDIA/AMD cards):

NVIDIA:

Right-click on the desktop to open the NVIDIA control panel.

Go to Display > Resize and Position Desktop.

Select your monitor and choose No Scaling under the Scaling Mode option.

Apply the changes and restart the game.

AMD:

Right-click on your desktop and open AMD Radeon Software.

Go to the Display tab.

Turn off GPU Scaling.

Apply the changes and restart the game.

Same problem. Loaded the Xbox update an the game now freezes when loading. Can't even load to previous checkpoint going to Finktown Proper.

Make sure to load the game once while connected to get the proper patch update for the game as well.

I changed my resolution from 1080p to 720p and the game loaded fine.

I think it is strange then, I play other games (loads of them) using the optimal resolution setting without problems...

The game screen on optimal resolution is all stretched out, which it should not be. How can this be?
