Games from Xbox app crashing

Now it says KMODE Exception not handled. I think it is a problem with the app. When I launch them from the windows store they crash as well. All my games load fine besides the ones I download from the Xbox beta app. Any game I download from the Xbox or
Xbox Game Pass crashes when loading. Any free game I download from the Microsoft Store runs fine.

Does the Xbox App crash or does the game crash?

If it's the Xbox (Beta) App, I'd say go to settings > Apps then find the Xbox (Beta) app and click "Advanced Options". From there, click the "Reset" button for the app. Restart the computer and see if that helps.

You could also try launching the games directly from the start menu without the Xbox App and see if that helps your ability to launch the game?

If it's the game that's crashing, then I'd say try doing the reset with the games that are causing issues, but for that we might need some more information, such as the specs of your PC? CPU, GPU, Memory, etc. can help us identify some other areas we might
need to investigate for troubleshooting.

We understand that you are trying to play the games you installed from Xbox app however, the games keep crashing. We appreciate you shared to us the work around of your concern, although this is not the fix you are looking for. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner for you to get back to gaming.

Should you be ending task on File Manager because these tasks were preventing your games to launch without issues. There is a possibility that there is a software installed into your PC that has enable the block for your games. In this case, provide us few details about your concern by answering the questions below:

1. When did this issue happen? Was there a recent Windows update or new application installed on your device?
   
2. Are the games/apps installed from Microsoft Store crash too?
   
3. Do you have antivirus, antimalware, VPN, firewall, proxy and PC Optimizer (or something like game accelerator) installed in your PC? Did you include the games you mention in your description to the list of apps with no restriction if launched?
   
4. What other troubleshooting you have performed?
   
5. Is there a recent update of your hardware or PC specs? Also, is your PC a customized one (you build and decide the specs of it)?
   

Since this has something to do with Explorer on task manager, do you mind providing us a screenshot of the Explorer task you mentioned?

Since these games you mentioned were installed from Xbox app, we recommend you to try the recommend troubleshooting for Xbox app. Please check the steps below:

• Restart device - Do not skip.
  
  • This will clear your computer’s memory/RAM.
    
• Keep your Windows updated - Skip if Optional Update is already installed.
  
  • Install PC updates including Optional Update. Guide - Update Windows
    
    • Settings > Update & Security (Windows 10) or Windows Update (Windows 11) > Check for updates > download updates and install > restart device and wait for the update to be done.

• Update your Windows and Windows drivers: Skip this if the drivers are updated.
  
  • For the best game performance, make sure your system’s video card drivers (or display adapter drivers) are up to date. Updating video card drivers can resolve game crashes, improve frame rates, and improve overall game performance.
    
• Update Xbox app and Gaming Services from Microsoft Store
  
  • Launch Microsoft Store app on Windows by searching it on Windows search bar.
    
  • Select Library > Updates & downloads > check if an update is available for the Xbox app.
    
  • If an update is available, select Update.
    
  • Launch Xbox app and check at the bottom of the page, if an update is available for Gaming Services.
    
• Make sure the game is updated.
  
  • Launch Xbox App for Windows.
    
  • In My Library, select the game title > select More options (…) button and choose Manage > select Files and then Check for updates.
    
• Make sure you are signed in to Microsoft Store and Xbox app with the same credentials.
  
• Repair the game
  
  • Launch Xbox App for Windows.
    
  • In My Library, select the game title > select the More options (…) button and choose Manage > select Files and then Verify and repair.
    
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Gaming Services.
    
    • Right-click the Start button and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
      
    • Type this command one at a time, press enter and wait:
      get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
      start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
      
    • Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
      
    • Restart your device and try to install the game again
      
• Uninstall and reinstall game from PC Settings > Apps > Apps and features. Search and select game and reset/uninstall.

I'm still getting the same issue after repairing the gaming service and issuing the command from the PowerShell as the administrator. It seems to crash the app whenever I click on anything to do with gamepass from the main screen. Even clicking on my subscription crashes the app.

Interestingly enough If I click on the All PC games and try and download from there I'm able to click the install button and get past the app crashing.
