If you redeemed a code for a PC game through the Microsoft Store, you'll have to download/install it from the Microsoft Store as it isn't affiliated with Steam.

If you download a game from Microsoft Store, I Believe it dose not go into steam. If you download a game from steam, it goes into steam. If you download a game from Microsoft Store, a shortcut will be created, or you can pin the game to task bar.

as you have re installed windows it breaks the encryption on the game folder that gamepass and windows store uses, you have to re download the lot, unlike steam and all the other clients microsoft chose this way.

if you are trying to install the games to another drive there will be remnants on that drive of the old game installs including the encrypted folder. this all has to be removed as the new windows install will refuse to use those older folders.

installing any microsoft game on pc has to be done on the pc it is to be played on, you cannot transfer the game, same if you reset the pc you would have to download it again.

Microsoft went a different route with their games on pc compared to steam or epic.

if you dont have a lot of internal space you would need to connect the external hdd, go to settings, storage - choose where items are saved to and then change where apps are installed to and choose the external drive, it will then creat several encrypted
folders.
