Games "crash" but still run in background, yet can't get back into it and I have to force shut.

Just in case, it seems like a good chunk of these are Steam Games, in which I would recommend contacting Steam support just in case.

Now, I'll be frank, I wouldn't discount that it may be a graphics card error. Because your PC doesn't crash and by all means it still operates as intended, but only the games and their appearances are affected. Audio is fine, and it seems like functionality is fine, but it's the picture that seems to be the issue. When this happens or if you get the opportunity, I would check GPU usage while a game is open to make sure resources across the board are operating as needed.

Or if it happens after some time but not immediately, it may be a heat issue, that the GPU or the CPU could be running a little hotter than expected and will redelegate resources to prevent overheating, which sometimes means Thermal throttling the CPU or the GPU.

I would prefer to reason away a Graphical or GPU/CPU error than assume that it isn't just so we don't discount any possibilities to finding a real and viable solution.

Overall, it seems like there are less games that crash than ones that do, and They are primarily Steam games however, the graphical load of each game seems to be inherently different. I suppose a good way to pinpoint is to see what these games have in common with each other and not the others.

I have an Acer Predator Helios 300 laptop, with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz, GTX 1060 Ti, 16gb RAM.

Some of the games that crash are Resident Evil 3 (though Resident Evil 2 did not), ****, Ghost Exile, Journey. They are all from Steam. I did play Halo Infinite on Xbox App and it used to crash, but then moved to steam and from what I remember it works fine. Games from Battle.net are fine too. Games that do not crash include Spelunky 2, Crash Bandicoot, Last Epoch, Levelhead, Witcher 3, all from steam.

I doubt it would be graphics, since usually when a game crash, it won't crash if I launch it right after and play for 2-3 hours. This includes ****, which is one of the games my PC struggles most with (still 60-70 fps though). Only Journey crashes more than once the same day. But it crashes the same way that all games crash (screen goes black, takes me back to desktop, but can still here game sound and control character from desktop (blindly).

And can you let us know if this is happening from any specific conditions like, "Only games from Xbox app" or if there are games that do not crash and how they differ. Knowing what games are crashing and any common specifics can help pinpoint where the issue is for troubleshooting.

it appears to crash while still in the black screen with the logo and no message. i did notice a background process for xbox that shared the same logo for the app. so now idk if its actually crashes or being forced into a background process.

the first thing I would try is pulling the power. I don't think the console ever really shuts down. It also reminds me of an android phone OS where apps still run in the background until you force it to quit.
