Gamertag Use

You cannot contact the owner of that gamertag other than sending a message.

If it says the tag is taken then thats it,you can't have it.

There is no current set amount of time before a Gamertag is freed up, as far as I know. Microsoft did once free up a bunch of old Gamertags, but people snatched them up and began selling them to the highest bidder, so I doubt we'll see that happen again
anytime soon. Also, while a Gamertag may appear to be unused on Xbox, remember that it can still be in use through other Microsoft services. Gamertags are used for Windows Phone, Windows 8, Zune, Games for Windows Live, etc...

Unfortunately Microsoft do not tell us when accounts are released, all you can do is keep trying every so often.

After some policy changes, there will not be another mass reset. As of 2016, if a person doesn't sign into their Xbox account for 5 years, the account will be freed up. As of August 30, 2019, if a person doesn't sign into their Microsoft account within
2 years, the account will be closed which should free up the gamertag as well. Otherwise, with the new gamertag policy, multiple people can use the same gamertag, you'll just be given a suffix to differentiate between tags.

o i was wondering wanted that gamertag for mounths now couldent get hold of it some guy said it wa shis dad gave him a 3 mounth xbox live for it didnt have it is there eny way i can get in touch with the owner sent loads of messages on xbox live about it
