    Gamertag showing ID numbers all the time.


    When the gamertag update came along I was requested to change it, I wanted to use my username Arekka but I guess it was taken so it showed me Arekka#3527 and I thought it would work like Discord usernames, so that people could share the same name just with different IDs, but when I accepted it, my name became Arekka3527 and guess what, I now need to pay to change it. WHY? WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF SHOWING THE NUMBERS ALL THE TIME? it just pisses me off how unclear that process was... now and all my friends call me by ArekkaThirtyFiveTwentySeven instead of just Arekka.

    The numbers are to differentiate you from the person who originally owned the Gamertag. If the numbers didn't show up, anyone could impersonate someone else.

    If you don't want the numbers on your Gamertag, you'll have to switch to a Gamertag that no one else is using.

    The new gamertag system is still rolling out. Some games will show the numbers while others will not. For the time being, the numbers will be visible and part of the gamertag.

    The only way to get a tag without numbers is to be the first person to have the gamertag.

    No. It means if you change your gamertag, the new one may not show up the same way you enter it in all games. If you get a tag with the suffix (# and numbers) the # will be removed and the numbers will show as part of the tag. Or if you have a gamertag with special characters, your old tag may show up.

    Tried, now saying this windows live id is associated with a different gamertad. Enter another windows live id and password. We deleted the gamertag on the console but when pulling it up on the computer, the gamertag is still showing to this id.
