gamertag says it’s taken on one account but free on another?

yes because if you look it up on the gamertag change section it reserves it for a few hours all the way up to 24 hours, after that period it should be available again for any other account that looks for it.

These gamertag search engines are not completely accurate.While one says its not taken another one says it is.

If your trying to make another Gamertag and it says its taken you need to enter another Gamertag not in use

if xbox says the gamertag is taken then its taken

remeber gamertags aren't used just by xbox

it is also used by gamesforwindows live and zune or could be an inactive account

either way you have to choose another name

friend requests do not work accross different services

It is possible that this gamertag is tied to another Microsoft account that is not active on Xbox Live or the gamertag is one that had been withheld by Microsoft for another reason and this will prevent you from being to claim the gamertag.

Well I have no idea what the issue is because Microsoft took my money and the gamertag is mine, of course not on the account I wanted it on.

Iv tried searching Google for similar experience to which I found none, can't imagine why one account saw it as taken when it obviously wasn't.

if it's not on your email you have to either free it or change your name and then try and use it
