Gamertag Release Question For Microsoft Employees

Are the mods here able to put in requests for gamertag releases, or give any information on when they will be released. It says it's supposed to be 5 years but some of the ones I'm searching up haven't been on in 15+ years and they're still unavailable. I've gotten the standard "if they still use the email" answe from other ambassadors, but what does still using an email have to do with their Xbox Gamertag? Let them keep the profile just revoke the tag and give them a random one. I've been on Xbox since the start and don't want to have to have a tag prefixed with random numbers... If no one here is able to help can they point me in the direction of who to talk to?

There is no way to request a gamertag to be released or get any information on when a tag will be released. Regarding signing into the email, since a Microsoft account is the same thing as an Xbox account these days, the account can still be signed into on multiple Microsoft services which would mean the account is not inactive.

If I wasn't online for 2 weeks sure. But some of these havent been used in 10+ years. I would accept it and pick a new tag. Not only does it open up tags, it frees up resources that are tracking and storing these tags that haven't been online in 10+ years. It's gotta be taking up space and time somewhere.

Not really. Imagine if someone else contacted Microsoft because they wanted the tag you have and all of a sudden you get a random tag out of nowhere. That wouldn't be fair to you.

Still doesn't make sense why they can't release the name. Something they need to change.
