Gamertag I Would Like To Use Is Taken

So recently I've decided that I want to change my current, misspelt gamertag, that I made when I was 9, to something that is at least spelt right and also meaninful to me. I've had this username for around 5/6 years, and as I'm getting older I think it really is time for a change. I settled on "W12 Ranger" which is related to my favourite football team. However, when I went to change it, I found that it was already in use. Now obviously, with the new gamertag system, I can still have that username, but it adds the 4 numbers to the end, and I thought that it just looked awful.

The W12 Ranger account that is already made, looks to be an inactive Xbox 360 account, so I was wondering if there was some way I could either get in contact with the user, or Xbox and ask for a username swap. All this might sound a bit far fetched, but it was worth a go, so if anybody knows anything or could help me that would be great!!

Afraid not.If the tag doesn't sign into any of Microsoft services for 5 years then it may be freed up but just because a gamertag looks inactive doesn't mean it is.It could be being used somewhere else in the system.

sorry when a tag is taken it is taken plus the game tags are also used for windows live games and zune. you will just have to create a different tag.

You can't know for a fact if a gamertag is actually taken or not. You have to understand that gamertags are used for multiple Microsoft services (Games for Windows LIVE, XBOX Live, Windows Phone, Windows 8, Zune, etc.). Gamertags can be spelled in many different
ways and spacing in gamertags do not matter, for example take the gamertag Hassan, it would be the same if it was H a s s a n or Hass an or even Ha ssan in Microsoft's eye's they are all considered the same as spacing is not considered in the equation. If
you'd like a gamertag and it's telling you that it's taken then that means it's taken, your only alternative would be to add some other letters or numbers to the gamertag you'd like.
