    Gamertag has numbers at the end even though no one else has the username


    Basically, I have a second account which uses my secondary email address which used the gamertag that I wanted. At the time, my primary email address had a gamertag that I didn't want.

    However when I changed the gamertag on my second account to something else (Silverlocke), to free up the username for my primary. It added those random numbers at the end as if someone else owned it, even though I just freed it up. This all happened a while
    back but I wasn't active at the time so I didn't bother to raise an issue.

    Is it possible to remove those numbers at the end of my gamertag? (#3423) Considering at this point, still, no one else has taken the name ?

    It visually bothers me in Master Chief Collection and Sea of Thieves.

    This is the new gamertag system - if you change it again you'll be given to choose both a "new" gamertag (with the numbers) and an "old" gamertag (without the numbers, and this is what will be displayed in just about everything that uses Xbox Live).

    Actually, if you chose a brand new gamertag, you will have no numbers at the end. So there is someone out there with that GT, probably you can’t see him/her for privacy reasons.

    Gamer Tags aren't always visible when you search for them for various reasons. Also, when you change a Gamer Tag it's not automatically freed up. The suffix on your chosen Gamer Tag indicates that it is being used some where already. You can learn more about

    Number cannot be changed you would have to change your gamertag.
