gamertag disassociated with email

My son bought a used xbox from a friend that had his gamertag on it. We added our own account, but our youngest son didn't use the correct account. He bought several games under the other gamertag. It has worked fine, but recently someone tried to use the passkey and got it wrong, so we had to use a password instead. We contacted the friend to find out the password and discovered he removed that gamertag from his email and set up a new gamertag. As such, the gamertag on our xbox has no email associated with it, even though it still lists the old email address. We can't change the email address to us because it will only affect his new gamertag. Is there any way to reassociate the old gamertag with a new email address so my son can access the account again? He's really upset because he worked hard to build a world in Minecraft and doesn't want to lose his skins and everything that he purchased on it. I tried to contact support, and there is no way to just email or chat with them under account questions. I'm rather frustrated with how difficult they make getting support! Hoping someone here will either know a way to contact support or how to reassociate the gamertag so we don't lose everything on it. Thanks!

Yes, you can do that. You need access into the account first to make that happen. I would work with the friend that gave you the Xbox and see how to get into that account. Once in, you can follow these instructions on how to create a new email alias for the account.

Please be aware

There will always be an email associated to an account. An Xbox account can never exist without one associated to it
Purchases cannot be transferred between accounts; I would recommend looking at refunding and repurchasing. Steps for starting refunds can be found here
Saved game information can also not be transferred between accounts. This means that the saves, items, and worlds on Minecraft he was playing on would only be accessible under the account they were purchased/created with

Speak to support. If you gamertag has been disassociated from your email address, they'll be able to confirm this and escalate to try and fix it.

Hey tierranalian! To disassociate that email address from the 'Tierranalin' you'll need to change the Microsoft Account email tied to it. You should be able to do this by signing into that gamertag 'Tierranalin' on your console and changing it to a brand
new Microsoft Account email. That will free up the email to associate it with your 'tierranalian' gamertag! Let us know if these are the steps you were looking for.

This is an error that occurs often. You need to disassociate the account on here from your microsoft ID account, and make sure your actual gamertag is the sole account using the proper email.

Essentially yeah. Let them know that your windows live was closed. They can do a search by email to make sure it was disassociated, bring up your gamertag and send it up to be fixed.
