Gamertag confusion

Well I hope someone can help me understand what is going on here.

I have two xbox accounts, one of them I want to change the my gamertag. I used the online gamertag checkers and all say the name I want is free to take so I log into change my name and it says it is taken... odd

So I log into my other account (this one) and search the gamertag..It is available, and the xbox website even asks me if I want to claim it which I do.. just not on this account.

so why is it the name I want is taken when logged into one account but free on another ?

Even logging into my 360 my one account finds the name I want and asks me to take it but the other ...nope its taken so what gives ?

Hey, i've been wanting to change my gamertag for a while, so i have a friend round at my house and we have 2 xboxes and 2 screens. My friend types in the desired gamertag on xbox 2, it says it is available for changing. He doesn't go ahead with the change
so on my xbox, xbox 1, i type in the exact gamertag he typed in and it is taken. Later, he wants to try a new gamertag, but the gamertag is only available on by xbox and not his, so currently we are only allowed eachothers desired gamertags, what is happening?

Is this one your using to post here a much needed gamertag? I see its silver and 0 gamerscore.. so if its just an extra account I would just delete the profile.. This should then only leave your console or windows live with one option of a gamertag associated
to the email your using and then let that one sign in.

Chances are you have 2 accounts under same email and password and its not sure which to use, so eliminating one would be a way to fix that issue... (or get one to use another email address) Alternatively, if you have Auto Login set to more than one gamertag,
I would disable it on all profiles but the one you wish to use and have sign in upon starting up xbox/games for windows live

Let us know if it works. (others may post alternate solutions)

It is possible that this gamertag is tied to another Microsoft account that is not active on Xbox Live or the gamertag is one that had been withheld by Microsoft for another reason and this will prevent you from being to claim the gamertag.

 

Well I have no idea what the issue is because Microsoft took my money and the gamertag is mine, of course not on the account I wanted it on.

Iv tried searching Google for similar experience to which I found none, can't imagine why one account saw it as taken when it obviously wasn't.

 

If it is saying the gamertag is yours then you may possibly need to wait a number of hours for the change process to complete. Also the gamertag that is showing for me on the forum is Alistrain can you confirm if this is the one you selected?

When ykou are searching for a friend's name it has to be exact

The Only way to actually check if a name is available is to try and get it if the system says it's taken its taken if you truly want to find the exact name use a random name generator and wait a few years for it to find the exact combination.

All names has to be unique to be used

But to be found you must use the exact spelling and case and spacing

 

if it's not on your email you have to either free it or change your name and then try and use it
