Gamertag changed and years of work

My Name is Danny Morgan Jr. I have spent too much time dealing with people that can't help me at Xbox. 2 years ago Xbox changed my gamertag because it was offensive,but it was my father's given last name. So I've spent all this time trying to figure out
why and how to change it to something that reflects me. I am not paying to change something you guys changed. So I spent hours with a chat agent the other day that got me nowhere. Towards the end of the convo I was directed to begin Microsoft rewards. I do
so and then earn the 800 points it takes to change my gamertag. Now I find no way to do so and contact another agent. The agent then tells me they can't help me and I need to write to this forum. I just want my gamertag to be my name not all this other crap
that other people have and not anything inappropriate. Please help for once. Xbox service has been far from helpful

ok, but what is strange was a few months ago 3 i think, i was thinking of changing my gamertag and i saw it, it was free, and i never changed my gamertag in years...

How did you think of your gamertag?

I've used this username well before I made my gamertag, so it was only fitting to make my gamertag this. I've never changed my gamertag and I never will. I've had my gamertag for 7 years

You will need to pay the fee. You can use the Microsoft rewards option but it will take more than 800 reward points to earn the $10. Your looking at around 10000 Microsoft rewards points to transfer to a gift card

With Microsoft Rewards points, once you earn enough points you can redeem an Xbox gift card to add funds to your account and then use those funds to purchase a gamertag change. The support person you spoke to was misinformed on how many points it takes.
Prior to the currency system Microsoft used points as currency and at that time it cost 800 Microsoft points to change a tag. Microsoft points are not the same as Microsoft Rewards points though so you would need enough points to redeem a $10 gift card as
well as a little extra to cover tax.

Yes, this should work. I'm basing this off my changing my own gamertag from Hassassin Ninja to Hassassinade, I was able to change my gamertag from the new silver account I made instantly to my old gamertag. I don't believe anything's changed since I did this
more than a year ago now, so it should still be possible for you to do.

You can't change gamertag 5 times per year. You get one free change, if you accept the given gamertag, after that it is $10 per change.
