    Gamertag change consent / Bad design = cost to parents :-(


    Here is the problem that needs to be addressed.

    1. XBox allows parental controls to require consent for purchases.

    2. XBox apparently allows a one-time free change to a Gamertag.

    3. XBox does NOT require consent for a child to change their Gamertag.

    4. XBox then charges $9.99 (and requires consent) to purchase a second Gamertag change to revert the Gamertag back.

    So - by not requiring consent for a child to change their gamertag, XBox is forcing a parent to pay $9.99 to remedy something they were expecting to be in a position to correct by way of the parental controls on the child account. This is not right. There should either be a control - or reverting the name should be free of charge if the name is still available.

    This is disappointing in that it would seem to be very very fixable.

    i cant access the auction house,gift cars or buy vinyl designs on forza 4 due to my parental controls!

    You would need to ask your parents to change it back for you, we can't tell you to do something without your parents' consent.

    Because the original account is now your eldest son's account. Technically he has to consent all the changes on the family settings.

    I think, you and your youngest son should be removed from the family group first (the one that you share with your eldest son). He might have to do it, as he has the parental control.

    Then sign in your xbox, and create a new family group for you and your youngest son.

    Remove yourself or a family member from your family on Xbox One

    Create a child account and add family members on Xbox One

    If the date of birth on your Microsoft account shows that you're under a certain age, Xbox is required to request parental consent for you to use Xbox Live.

    If you're an adult, but you got a message asking for parental consent, it's because you're a child in your Microsoft family.

    Solution

    If you're of an age that requires parental consent, follow the steps on your Xbox to have your parent sign in and add you to their Microsoft family.

    If you're over the age requiring parental consent, have your parent remove you from the family. They'll have to sign in to
    account.microsoft.com/family, select your profile, and select
    Remove.

    If you're unable to clear the message, contact Xbox Support.
