    Gamertag change but on Inactive account


    Hi, I’m a gaming YouTubed under the name “Neg” for over a decade now and I’d like to change my gamertag to “Neg” however the gamer tag is held by an account which has been inactive for years. The owner of the account reached out to me 4 years ago and they were trying to sell it for £400 - I assume this isn’t within Xbox rules to do this? Is there anything I/Xbox can do to allow me to purchase this legally? Thanks Gamertag change but on Inactive account :)

    As of right now there is no way of obtaining a inactive gamertag no matter how long the account has been inactive. Hope they change it in near future.

    How to submit a ticket for requesting an inactive account gamertag to be reset?

    I want to change my gamertag to the name I use on all other platforms, the gamertag is used by an inactive (atleast 5 years inactive) Xbox account. How can this gamertag be reset so that I can use it on my own account?
    If they sign into the Microsoft account their xbox gamertag is tied to in order check their email at least once every 2 years then this will also make their account (active) and basically would never have their gamertag reset as long as they do that.

    Because of that there really is no way to know for sure if an account is inactive or not.

    Inactive gamertags are released offline after 7 years
    that was changed a while ago, it was 5 years now its 2 years of account inactivity, basically microsoft account not signed into for 2 years straight.
