Game updates to internal storage failing due to 'lack of storage' despite 100x that being...

Updates for the console itself will only install on the internal storage, and updates for games will only install where the games are stored. So if the game is installed on the internal storage, then the update for that game will install on the internal storage. You cannot pick and choose where an update is installed.

and thats an issue, the storage options atm for the series x and s are limited and the expansion options are both proprietary and EXPENSIVE, i would kinda prefer it if they did do 2 versions of games xbox one and enhanced, there needs to be options in my opinion because of the size increase of games due to well in my opinion lack of effort to optimize and compress game files, like just having the 4 most recent call of duty games will take up the entirety of the internal storage, and a lack of an option to play it off an external drive isn't fun, and the only way to expand the useable storage is to fork over the price of another xbox series x for just 2 extra TBs, and there isn't really an option to expand the internal storage, i just think having the option would be better or just allowing games to run off hard drives whilst informing users of the games being slower would be nice

There is no error message (except when I try to download an update that I suspect is a consequence of this issue). Basically, when I go to the Storage menu, and go down to the Internal Storage, it says there are only 450 MB free of the 3 GB capacity (which
is normal - it was like that previously). However, when I click on Internal Storage, all the section say that 0.0 KB are being used, as if there was absolutely nothing in this storage space.

The internal storage is where my profile (console-only) and all my game files are stored. Hence, I cannot access them as I believe the files in the internal storage have been corrupted. I believe the update and subsequent error message when I try to do the
update come from all the previous updates having been corrupted from the internal storage.

I was wondering if this is a problem that has been encountered before and if there is any known solution to recover my game files.

Is this game stored on your Internal Storage or External hard drive? If it's on your External Hard drive kindly move it to your Internal Storage then remove the hard drive. This is to check if it's due to the external hard drive.

This happened to me about 1 month ago. I would like to know what's the cause of this error. My internal storage was unformatted before I couldn't download, so I think it was the unformatted internal storage that causes the problem. I recommend watching,
