Game update just redownloaded entire game.

Basically I took my external drive to use on my downstairs Xbox, launched the game but it said required an update which I thought was strange as it was already updated, it proceeds to redownload the entire game again.

Pretty much screwed, can't play anything till next month now as my internet's data cap can't afford to redownload all 120 GB again so why the heck has it done this.

looks like it glitched out, next time when moving them i would fully shutdown the consoles first.

also why are people still restricted by data caps, not seen them for over a decade.

May I know which console do you have? Is it Xbox Series S/X?

Also, where is the default installation for your Xbox console? Is it the internal storage or your external drive?

Here! Here! Been dealing with this for over a year now. Redownloading the entire game when it should be just an update.

To clarify, you are prompted to redownload game update every time, or the entire console update?

When you cancel an update it causes the system to have to redownload the entire game plus the update.
