Game sounds work. No sound on apps

Please try power cycling your console to see if that does the trick:
1. Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
2. Unplug the console's power cable from the console and from the power outlet. Wait 5 minutes.
Important: Be sure to wait at least 5 minutes. This step resets the power supply.
3. Plug the console power cable back in.
4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.

Some apps such as YouTube do not support surround sound on Xbox One. If some games & apps work with surround sound, while specific apps do not, the best route to take will be to reach out to the developers of those specific apps to inquire about possible
surround sound support.

My problem "floats."

For a few days, PlutoTV, has no sound, then it works fine, and Prime Video has no sound.

Then Prime is fine, then HBOMax has no sound.

Now, HBOMax is fine, but no games have sound, but all other apps do. Hopefully, in a few days, it will move on to some other app and I can game with it again. All the Series X system sounds always work regardless (so far)

So my console may as well now be a brick at this point. I have cycled. I have reset my apps. I have unplugged it and plugged it back in.

Whatever bug this last update installed, please fix it.

I have a Samsung Sound Bar with Dolby Atmos. All works fine on the Xbox One X with Netflix, Amazon Prime, gaming and the Dolby Atmos app. Doesn't work with the Disney Plus app though. Sound isn't coming through the rear speakers and sounds very ordinary.
I go and do the Atmos tests and demos on the Dolby Atmos Xbox app and they work and sound awesome.

I've googled around and apparently lots of people are having the same issue with the app. Hope they fix it soon as I was planning on watching the Star Wars trilogy in 4K and Atmos. I'll wait until they fix it.

As the page that XBF Javier R linked to explains, the console can't know if you use the headset for chat only or for game sound as well, and will not mute the TV sound output.

If you don't get game audio from your headset, but chat sound is working, then go to the settings, and under "Display & Sound" enable game sound through your headphone.

Unless you have bought the Dolby Atmos for Headphones app (and not only the free trial app), you should use Stereo or Windows Sonic to get game sound from your headphones.

If neither game sound nor chat sound is coming from the headset, try the headset on a different controller, or try different headphones on your controller (e.g. earplugs that came with your smartphone or something like that).
