Game sharing in 1 family and games bought when kids change consoles

What in the world. Family of 7 here

We bought some games on some accounts and as the years go by the kids grow. Older child has now bought an xbox s and moved away from xbox one.

His games that were shared by family are they lost? According to tech support we would need to place xbox one as his home for us to play. But he only gets 1 switch a year!!!!!

Or he would need to sign into the one while keeping one s as home console and we would need to sign into his gamer account to play the games there. But that means he cant play while we play.

Is there any way of transferring property of digital games?

Has microsoft just completely disregarded big families?

Maybe i should just stay the hell away from digital games and keep with the actual disks. Over the years we bave for over 2k of games. Have they all been lost to eldest child?

    :)

It's not possible to transfer ownership of digital games. If your older child sets the console everyone else in the family is using as his Home console, they can still access his games. He can still use his own console as long as he is signed in. The Home setting can be changed 5 times within a year. Unless someone else is using his account, he can still play at the same time anyone else is using the Home console.

Rainbow Six Siege Deluxe. Missing operators!

That is not true. I am the main owner and i buy all the games on my account so with it being the home xbox all my kids can enjoy the games and dlc’s I buy for every game. Like dlc killers or survivors in dead by daylight for instance trough buying the dlc.
Thats how microsoft sold the device as sharing all games and addons with your family as in my kids. I am not talking about in game payment with unlocked money. Neither is the OP. Its about buying stuff in the microsoft store where ubisoft is the first to ever
make a change to dlc not sharing. He bought the deluxe edition which included two extra dlc’s to download. You can actually see here in the ubisoft forum when the changed it and patched it only half way the questions they them self found out the so called
buy dlc’s seperate for your kids. It worked for years as how microsoft back in 2014 explained. Just set your xbox to home and all bought content and dlc’s are shared to family members on that console. https://forums.ubisoft.com/showthread.php/2190804-Missing-Year-1-Operators/page10

Gaming Must Promote and Protect the Safety of All

Have been using the family settings for ages now - and generally they work really well, unless your family sits outside the "norm"

Half the time my kids spend their time with the other parent in a different house, and since we have two xboxes in this house (with one of them as the home xbox), when they are at the other house they lose access to all the games I have bought and share
with them. Unless you change what console is the home console - but then you are limited to only a few changes per year for that

Screen time controls are awesome, and are heavily used in our home.

Xbox Live Gold won't share to second console

I have made one console the home box...I have the second completely set up. But....it won't allow live? ...

    Very frustrated Momma
Is it possible that you bought Xbox Live on your parent account, and your two kids have their own accounts?

Be aware, that your account can only share to ONE home console at any given time, and you can only change the sharing to a specific console five times within a year! So be careful when you try switching around the Home Console!

I'll assume that you bought Xbox Live Gold on your own "mom-account". With two consoles, this will only work if you set one console as your Home Console, and are actually signed in together with your second kid on the second console.

    Ideally, I'd recommend the following:

Have Son #1 buy a Gold membership after you cancelled the Gold membership on your "mom-account". Then have Son#1 set console#2 as their Home Console, so the Gold membership is shared to Console#2. Now everyone on console#2 can play online multiplayer.

Son#1 can go to any other console and also play online multiplayer, as he has the Gold membership tied to his own account, which roams to whatever console they go to.

Also have one son buy the games that both kids should be able to play, as the same sharing rules apply: You with your mom-account can only share to one console at the same time.

When son#1 buys a game, the ownership of the game will roam with son#1 to whatever console they sign in, while his games are shared to his Home console that son#2 uses.

    Xbox live subscription family

Unfortunately, there is no family subscription anymore.

This was probably replaced by the family sharing through the "Home Console" setting on the Xbox One.

This setting allows one single console to share Gold and Game Pass memberships as well as purchased games to everyone playing on that single console.

However, since you have three separate consoles, you need at least two separate subscriptions.

    For example, you have Kid1, Kid2 and Kid3, playing on Console1, Console2 and Console3:

Buy a subscription for Kid 1 and Kid 3.

Have Kid1 set Console2 as it's Home Console. Now Kid 2 can play all games Kid1 owns, as well as participate in online multiplayer thanks to the subscription of Kid1.

Since Kid1 owns the subscription on their account (as does Kid3), both kids can play on any console in the world and benefit from their Gold membership.

Kid2 can only play on that console, that Kid1 or Kid3 set as their Home Console as only those Home Consoles will share the Gold membership of their respective owners.
