    Game Save Data Issue


    My console is the Xbox One X and it is about 3 yrs old. I am subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate and for a while only played on the console. I played No Man's Sky quite a bit, but after a while as updates were added to the game, it seemed like my console couldn't handle it (mostly with newer games) because after a few hours it would either lock up or shut down completely due to overheating. Eventually, I couldn't even play certain games because it became more frequent.

    That's when I started looking into Game Pass on PC. I downloaded No Man's Sky on my PC thinking I was just going to have to start over. I was quite surprised to discover that my save data from the console version synced to the PC version, which was a huge relief and pretty much the only reason I am still subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate.

    A few days ago I started playing The Outer Worlds on the console, so far with no crashes from overheating. I decided to try the PC version, but was disappointed when my save data from the console didn't sync with the PC version. `My question is why didn't it sync? Is there something I have to do for it to sync up? This is only the 2nd game I've tried to do this with, but while I wait for a reply I'm going to try another game I have on the console on my PC just to see if my save data syncs.

    We appreciate you for bringing this up to Xbox Forum.

    We understand that you encountered issues playing the game Terraria. As per description, you found out that the previous game was not saved and have lost its progress.

    We are sorry to hear that you lost your progress in Terraria due a save failed. That must be frustrating.

    Let us check on this together and sort this out to assist your concern.

    There are a few possible ways to recover your lost save files:

    • You can right-click on the corrupted player or world file and select Restore previous save.
    • You can rename the backup files (.bak) by removing the .bak extension and see if they work.
    • You can copy the old files to a new folder and remove all files in the Terraria folders. Keep the originals as backups. Change the names of the copied world files and put them back into the Terraria ‘worlds’ folder. Start up the game and see if any of the old save files with the new names appear.
