Game preview trial...pointless

So I have been a strong supporter of the game preview section, it allows you to get access to a game for a cheap price but you have to deal with bugs and the fact the game may in fact never release.

What I dont get is why they do 1hr free trial of the games, for instance on the new title Atlas.

Its much like ark in its play style but you have pirates, boats etc essentially you still harvest and craft and can tame or kill creatures also.

But with games like ark and atlas an hour just doesn't give you any sort of feel for the game, it scratches the surface literally.

By the time you go through menus to create a character, start to figure out controls and start to level up, bearing in mind you can do very little to begin, your hour is up and now you have to either commit to spending cash in a game you have very little
idea of, or dont bother lol

I'm surprised, more so on these games where they try to build a player base, that they dont do a 5 or 10hr trial so you at least get some depth of experience.

What's your view on preview games and on the trial period offered?

I agree with that. With those kinds of games you definitely need way more time to get the feel for the game. It's really hard to tell what you would think of the game in an hour.

Never really used it. I think Goat Simulator but that is maybe it? Can't remember if I bought it or not.

i agree with you here, the game trial is a waste, 1 hour? Really. it does not give you enough time to see if it is worth the buy or not

I can understand the possible frustration endured with game previews being buggy and often unplayable and in some cases not worth the price. I've been down that route before with a few games, the only game preview I've actually bought (that wasn't gifted/gameshared)
was PUBG. I didn't have any complaints with it when it was in game preview because I had good friends to enjoy the buggy mess with. I believe the idea of charging for a game preview rather than doing something like a free beta or a free trial is so that you
can have people playing for a lot longer and it being at a fixed price allows creators to get more funds to keep building their game while getting feedback. Whereas most people I know who play betas don't give feedback because its free, and people I know who
like purchasing game previews often take to the forums or developers either praising or denouncing them.

I guess there's a business strategy to it... but at the end of the day its the developer's/publisher's choice of what they do with their games and why.

I think three hours would be better that way it gives you enough of a test to make you want the game. Or do a level requirement, depending on the game.
