Game Pass - Weird West: 'Gaming Services' launches instead of the game

For the last few days when I try to launch Weird West instead of the game launching Windows is opening Gaming Services in the Microsoft Store.

Yesterday I tried various fixes (repairing Gaming Services, different steps to reinstall it via Powershell, rolling back Windows updates which have come in over the last day or two) but eventually I just reinstalled the game and this worked.

However today I've tried to launch the game and am getting the same issue again and I really don't want to have to think in advance and reinstall the game every time I want to play it because my internet simply isn't fast enough for that to be practical.

Three windows updates have install over the last couple of days:

Servicing Stack 10.0.1.19041.1613

I've no idea if these are likely to be related but I tried to uninstall them to test and turned off automatic updates but they immediately reappear anyway when I restart.

Is there anything else I can try?

You don't lose your saved game, Gamepass holds onto that, but I did have to reinstall the game a number of times.

Thanks for getting back to me. It's also the only game I have had issues with. I have tried all the solutions mentioned. Did you reinstall the game? Did you lose your saved game?

I'm afraid not.

I just took to trying to run a repair or reinstall in advance of trying to do a next session. It did ease up a little but I don't think it totally went away. I feel like in this one's case it must be something specific to the game... but then maybe more people would have reported it? I don't know. It's the only Gamepass game I've had the problem with.

Hi, thanks for your reply. My apologies for the delayed response, after the re-install of the game I mentioned in my initial post I hadn't encountered the issue again until today.

I have tried:

- Ensuring Windows is up to date

- Repairing the two apps

- The powershell commands

I haven't tried reinstalling the Xbox App or using the ISO tool. Will using those lose my progress in the game? I've Googled and the results seem to suggest I might which would be even more irritating than having to repeatedly reinstall the game.
