Had a long call with MS support they escalated the issue and promised to get back to me ASAP. After two days without any feedback, I cancelled the subscription, and voil the Game Pass was working again. Seemingly the status change triggered whatever was
wrong in their database, and reinstated the subscription for the remaining duration.
