    Game Pass PC - Possible FIX for ERROR 0x00000001 downloads stuck at 0%


    Recently a friend acquired Game Pass PC but half of the games could not be downloaded since the ERROR 0x00000001 came up and they stayed at 0%... after looking for many supposed solutions such as: change folder permissions, reset the app, reinstall, update Windows, tinker with services, powershell commands, etc, we found the solution Disable Windows Defender.

    Yes i know what you are thinking now "that's weird, doing just that is not going to solve it" well i can tell you we tried a lot of fixes and nothing worked until we found that for some reason Windows Defender was the problem and since then we have not had any problem. And if you wonder how we deduced that WD was giving problems, it was because every time we clicked install the WD icon appeared for half a second on the System Tray, so you can check that too.

    I just wanted to share this in case it helps someone out and doesn't waste your time with other more complicated methods but be warned this fix maybe does not work for you in the same way that the other fixes (who seems to have helped other people) did not work for us, but at least it is easy to do and you can try before you start doing the other ones.

    TL DR: Disable Windows Defender before installation

    Well, this sort of worked haha, it changed the error: now its stuck at preparing 0% but doesn't throw the previous error code, and instead stays stuck or gives me code 0x00000001.

    Ever since Forza horizon 5 switched to the Xbox app for download and updates, it won't download or update.

    I'm having the error code 0x00000001 as well. Can't download any games from game pass even though I have an active subscription.

    Hey! Reporting back I fixed my problem!

    The solution in the Reddit post didn't work but what I did do was install the Xbox App. In doing so I was able to try and install the game in the App. This gave me another Error code (0x00000001). After looking it up I followed this troubleshooting guide:

    For me Solution 3 worked. After Resetting my internet connection I was able to download and install the game on my PC!

    Forza Horizon 5 isnt downloading for xbox app

    I can't get the game to download at all with the app. I get an error immediately after "Preparing 0%" and the code is 0x00000001.

    I've already removed and reinstalled the gaming services app package through powershell, and my OS is up to date.

    Technically, literally unplayable.
