Game Pass PC Guardians Of The Galaxy refuses to launch

We understand that Guardians of the Galaxy does not load past the starting screen. Let us look into this together to get you back to gaming.



First, please make sure that your computer is completely updated - including all optional updates. Additionally, please confirm that your computer meets the minimum requirements necessary to run Guardians of the Galaxy. We also recommend that you sign out of the Xbox App on your PC and then back in to see if the issue resolves itself.



Next, please make sure that your graphics drivers are completely updated. How you do this will vary depending on what kind of graphics card you have installed on your PC. Please visit the manufacturer's website for your graphics drivers and download the most recent driver version that is available for your GPU model.

If the issue persists after updating your graphics drivers and computer, we recommend that you follow these steps.



Run Guardians of the Galaxy as Administrator

1. Right-click the Guardians of the Galaxy icon on your Desktop
   
2. Select Run as Administrator
   
3. See if the game launches
   

Reinstall the Gaming Services Package

1. Right-click the Start button in the lower-left corner of the main screen, and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin).

2. On the Windows PowerShell Administrator screen, type the following command, and then press Enter:

Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers

1. Restart your computer and see if the problem is resolved.
   

Update Xbox app on the PC

1. Open the Microsoft Store on your computer
   
2. Click Library in the bottom left corner of the app
   
3. Select Get Updates in the top right corner and download all updates
   

Resetting the Xbox app may also help

1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
   
2. Click Applications > Applications and Features. Scroll down or search to find the Xbox app. Click on the app and choose Advanced Options.
   
3. Scroll down to click the Reset button under the Reset section. You can also select Repair.

Uninstall and reinstall Guardians of the Galaxy

1. Click the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen and then select the Settings cog
   
2. Select the Apps tile
   
3. In the search bar, please type Guardians of the Galaxy
   
4. Select game tile and select Uninstall
   
5. Reinstall the game from your desired launcher (Steam, Xbox App)
   
6. See if issue persists

1. Open the launcher where you had originally downloaded the game on your computer (Steam, Xbox App)
   
2. Select the game from your game library in the launcher
   
3. Uninstall the game
   
4. Reinstall the game from your desired launcher (Steam, Xbox App)

Uninstall the Xbox app through App Settings

1. Open the Settings on your computer by pressing the Windows + I keys at the same time

2. Select Apps

3. In the search bar or by scrolling, search locate the Xbox App tile

4. Click the gray Uninstall box

Note: If you can't select the "Uninstall" box, choose Advanced Options, and then Uninstall

If “Uninstall” is not available, use PowerShell to uninstall the Xbox app

1. Search for Windows PowerShell in the search bar in the lower-left corner of the screen

2. Right-click Windows PowerShell and select Run as Administrator

3. select Yes to allow it to make changes to your device

4. Type the following command, and then press Enter:

Get-AppxPackage *xboxapp* | Remove-AppxPackage

5. Let the command run and close PowerShell

6. Restart the computer



Install the Xbox app from the Microsoft Store

1. Open the Microsoft Store on your computer

2. In the search bar at the top of the app, search for Xbox

3. When the Xbox app page opens, select Install

So my Bluetooth adapter is a Asus brand.

This only happens with Guardians of the Galaxy. The controller works with other games.

And I’m playing with the game installed on my PC.

Ehh that guardians of the galaxy game maybe? Probably.

So, I just resolved the issue with Doom Eternal in the weirdest way.

I had to "re-install" every Xbox App game after reinstalling the Gaming Services package by navigating to the game's page in the Xbox App. I started with Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and that worked just fine. I then tried Doom Eternal, and launching it after "re-installing" it failed with the same error message as before.

I then launched Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy again, waited for the Launcher to appear, clicked Play, and when that game started up it also launched Doom Eternal for some reason - both games started simultaneously, with Doom starting a moment after Guardians and appearing on top.

I went through the initial setup, logging in, confirmation prompts in Doom, changed the resolution, and quit out. I then also quit out of Guardians. I tried launching Doom Eternal again from the Xbox App, and it started up just fine. So Doom Eternals appears fixed, and I have no idea why launching Guardians of the Galaxy fixed it, but it did.

I am disappointed and confused with how much trouble I've had with games from the Xbox App, considering that Microsoft controls both the OS and the app, particularly when everyone else - from giants like Steam and Ubisoft to small platforms like GOG and Itch.io - have figured out how to digitally distribute games that just work. I suspect it has a lot to do with the Universal Windows Platform that the Xbox App uses.
