    Game Pass on 2 Windows accounts

    Hello,

    me and my wife have 2 separate Windows accounts (users) on the same computer.

    I currently own Game Pass: I followed instructions and made her able to access my Game Pass from her account (basically, on the XBox App installed on her side, I had to set my account for Windows Store and her account for playing games).

    The problem is that she doesn't "see" the games I downloaded from my account (not even the games I downloaded after the change above), besides Stellaris.

    I guess it has to do with the installation path: games get installed on my "personal" path and she can't see them. What's the solution, since through the app I can't pick a different installation path? Should she download the game again, even if it's currently installed on my side?

    Thank you in advance.

    :)

    Unfortunately, there is no way to select the path where the files will be saved, as they are encrypted files that are saved in the same place, unlike steam and other launchers that have their subfolders with the names of games and executables.

    The only thing you can do is select which external or internal hard drive the games will be installed on, to do this follow the instructions below.

    Open Xbox Game Pass PC app.

    Click on your profile icon on the top right of the corner.

    Go to Settings.

    Click on General from the left menu.

    Under the drive selection tab, hit “Change where this app installs games by default“.

    Choose the drive you want your games to be installed in.

    Where does Xbox Game Pass install games?

    The default install directory for the games is the WindowsApps folder. Alongside many other Windows 10 applications, the games you download from Game Pass are also stored in this file. You must have administrator permissions if you want to gain access to it though.

    In fact, even you manage to open the folder you will not be able to run or locate the game files in it. They are encrypted by Windows during installation and they can only be run from the Game Pass app. So running the game from .exe is not possible when it comes to the desktop application.

    Game Pass on 2 Windows accounts

    Hello, thanks for your reply. I'm aware I can pick the installation path during normal installs: in this case I'm specifically talking about games downloaded from the Microsoft Store / Game Pass: there's the "Install" button on the game's main page in the store, and once you click on it, it automatically starts downloading and installing without asking for custom path. Is there a way in the Windows Store to select a custom path during installations? Right now, if me and my wife want to play the same game (downloaded from the Store) on different Windows accounts, we both have to download and install it. I'd like to avoid to have a game installed twice on my HDD.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello, how are you? My name is Mateus. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

    First, welcome to the Xbox community. I'm sorry you're having this problem.

    I understand that you want to share the installed programs with other users. When installing software on your system, it specifies the directory where it will be installed. By installing the software in one of the paths below, it will determine whether or not it can run on other users;

    C:\Program Files: When installing the software in this directory, it can be executed by all users of the system.

    C:\Users\Username: When installed in this path, the software will be run only by the user who installed it.

    Note: Some software may not have the default installation directory changed.

    If the application is installed in C:\Program Files and it is still not possible to run it on another user, I suggest you follow the steps below:

    1. On the Desktop, press the Windows + R keys simultaneously to open Run;

    2. In Run type the command “Gpedit.msc” and click Ok, to open the Local Group Policy Editor;

    3. In the Local Group Policy Editor, expand the User Settings option;

    4. Then expand Administrative Templates and click System;

    5. Double-click the Run only specified Windows applications item;

    6. Check the Disabled checkbox, and click Apply > Ok;

    7. Restart the system.

    Can't use Game Pass Ultimate under a different account than the PC's primary account.

    Hi lystalex,

    The new Xbox (Beta) app on PC for the Xbox Game Pass for PC, included with Game Pass Ultimate, and the Xbox Console Companion app uses the account logged into the Microsoft Store app, not Windows, for subscription and game license verifications. Log
    in normally to Windows with Account #1. Then, open the Microsoft Store from your Start menu, and
    in the upper right corner, click on your account picture and sign out from Account #1. Sign in to Account #2, and from there the Xbox (Beta) app should recognize Account #2 and allow you to start installing games. Make sure you are also signed in to Account
    #2 on the Xbox (Beta) app, but it should automatically do it once you sign in to the right account on the Microsoft Store.

    Sign in to Account #2 in the Microsoft Store and then let us know if it allows you to install games while logged into Account #1 for Windows.

    Is there a way to play Minecraft without logging in to the Microsoft store with the right Microsoft account ?

    To play Minecraft on a Windows PC, you typically need to be logged into the Microsoft Store with the account that owns the game. This is due to the way Microsoft manages game licenses and user authentication.

    However, if you have Minecraft through Xbox Game Pass, and your Windows 11 account has access to Game Pass, you can play Minecraft without switching accounts. Game Pass allows for family sharing, so as long as the account with Game Pass is set as the home account on your PC, all profiles on that PC can access its games.
